Stay on your tip-toes!

Rolled a lot longer than the one on St. Paddy's Day. After twenty seconds I went back to watching Michael Mann's THIEF on BD

It makes sense that they want to stick with what they have. I just want the major studios to be honest and to deliver DCI P3 video to consumers in the most efficient way possible.

I am not questioning what you said, but I am curious.
The cost of doing real time conversion from any combination of color primaries in the XYZ color space to either Rec. 2020 or Rec. 709 is unknown. No one has ever made such a system but due to the complexity it would be expensive. High quality white point rebalancing costs a few hundred dollars which explains why every major consumer display standard uses the D65 white point. And to be clear changing the white point would provide no benefit to the consumer and only the major studios would benefit from that. I would guess that by 2018 the combination of the XYZ color space and white point rebalancing might add $400 to the cost of a consumer 4K display.

Since consumer multispectral laser projectors (with 5 or more color primaries) won't happen for at least 10 years and they might not happen for 20 or 30 years.

The XYZ color space can use any color primaries, which can be seen in the HEVC draft, so it doesn't mean anything by itself. The only way the XYZ color space would be a benefit is if movie cameras, production equipment, movie projectors, and movies use more than the Rec. 2020 color space. Until all of that happens it is just an expensive way to store DCI P3 video.

We went out…. not to the movies - http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/...ay-home-n66636

But to a fundraiser in Anaheim for Bruno….http://gma.yahoo.com/video/police-do...135950938.html

The ‘surprise’ wasn’t the breakage and misalignments in things upon returning home, but rather that the earthquake gas shut-off valve I had installed years ago (and totally forgot about) was tripped and later that evening we ran the dish washer and I took a long shower before going to bed….not even thinking about checking the hot water heater. My wife paid the price when she took her shower early this a.m.

Noah is 1.85? I assumed it'd be 2.35, seeing as Aronofsky seems to dig that ratio and it's a typical 'blockbuster' thing to do. Still, the taller frame will give more height to that big ol' boat, I suppose (also known as 'the Jurassic Park defence').

I guess that means for all practical purposes his departure from RED signals the Red 4K laser projector project is either in a state of prolonged dormancy or else completely kaput like Sony Pictures Interactive - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ts-down-689125
I have the idea that someone with the backing needed is going to take his approach (which is fine, he does understand the business, even if too excitable).

And with no public push to UHD BD, maybe still time for something. Weird that he's be the CES spokesperson considering. Guess he's the only one capable of public scrutiny

One could argue the boat is much longer than it's tall.

This is true, but not every shot is going to be in profile. Having just watched the trailer, they keep showing it from front-on to sell the immense scale of the craft, hence the 1.85 framing.

Not too long ago the company also lost some of the major spark behind the 4K REDRAY player… “design specification and development supervision of REDRAY digital media player Digital Rights Management and Digital Media Encoder” Stuart E., who also moved on to pursue other interests….http://www.linkedin.com/pub/stuart-english/8/456/8b4

Not surprising as the talent behind RED was real, but launching such a product line to "consumer" levels was undoubtedly a mistake. Way too much technical involved and being so small almost automatically meant no real and interesting content for home use. RED is first and foremost a "pro-sumer" product with real potential (otherwise nothing would have been "filmed" using RED tech. and it should have stayed that way).

Maybe this is good news, real backing behind his vision (Ted). What that will result in, if ever, needs to be seen, and what that new aim is still needs to be determined.
