Yeah. People should realize that with anything that is an historical account, or based on a book, that Hollywood has to take some liberties with the source material because if they didn't the movie would not be exciting or it would just kind of stumble along forever and by the time you get to the end you really don't give a damn any longer. Case in point, The Lord of the Rings, if Peter Jackson filmed those books verbatim, page by page, each movie would have been at least six hours long a piece and would have included some cool stuff(imho) but a lot of it really didn't move the story along. Hell I've read those books about two dozen times since High School and there's a lot of things he left out and there's a lot of things he added in to make the story move along more smoothly.(grammar?)

My guess would have been Hollywood, but yes, the big apple works too.

What you heard came from the historical fact that B.W. (initials used for security reasons) used to be a cab driver in Gotham and he did indeed acording to all factual historical acounts wear a turbin. The big yellow cab ended up being replaced by the 4 wheeling batmo buggy and the turbin was traded in for the black cape. Saw this documentry on the History channel. See, not really much of a stretch on the film makers taking some liberties here and there. Give me liberties or give me death.

You don't know what you are talking about. King Kong is just as long and is reference quality on HD DVD, also has True HD audio.

If the history was accurate it would be a documentary.

It is not, so it is a fictional story about a person in history.

It is no more "Historical nonsense" than the US history text books for grade school.

It is - a good action movie and on my top 10 list of period flicks.

i could be wrong, but i thought the digital bits had reported an hd-dvd release of this movie in early-mid '08. too lazy to find the quote/link...

on the subject of whether or not this is a good movie -- i loved it. would buy it on blu in a heart beat.

if you want historically accurate, stick with Ken Burns.

Okay, all the slagging on Kirsty's opinion using Batman and videogames is just silly.

I think the point is that movies based on historical events & personages have a unique opportunity that usually gets squandered. The Right Stuff---or, if you prefer, Apollo 13---are really good movies that illuminate history rather than simply treating it as a scenic element. Even though it's nearly totally fictive, I'd call Matewan another really good historical film because writer/director John Sayles knew the history and used it to inform his work; a good historical film need not be a documentary to produce a good piece of work that simultaneously entertains and promotes greater understanding of where we've come from.

There's nothing wrong with entertainment dressed up in period costume. But there's nothing wrong with telling real stories about real people, either. To paraphrase Utah Phillips, I could drop a rock on your foot that's older than the oldest story you know; the past didn't go anywhere.

Hi guy's
Doe's anybody know if this great western would, or could be, released on blu-ray?

It is up there with Unforgiven as an all time classic, the acting by all was suberb in the movie and a good story line.

Anyway I should'nt waffle on. Thank's for any replies

Could be, as it's a Hollywood Pictures movie (and Hollywood Pictures is a subsidiary of Buena Vista/Disney).

There's no Blu-ray release date for it as of yet.
