I just ended up watching the whole film with the mono track and I'll be honest that both the mono and 7.1 remix have their pros and cons. I prefer the opening and closing credits scores on the remix as well as the thunder sounds. I could also pick up on Michael's breathing sounds better on the 7.1. The dialogue and overall sound effects are "better" on the mono track though IMHO. I also prefer the fixed audio score sudden high pitched flub when Michael stops the car when Annie yells out at him on the 7.1. That always bothered me before the 7.1 track. I'm fine with the 7.1 but I really do wish the mono had been included.

Just wanted to say that above comment and keeping an open mind is very much appretiated - no matter which version you prefer overall (or consider to be "much better"

Sounds fine to me. And more importantly, it looks great. Can't imagine it looking any better. This is only version of the film I'll ever need.

They are definitely wrong to say lightning makes no sound... but gotta say also think how you define it is not even the exact explanation, either. Lightning and thunder are two separate sounds. The lightning bolt causes the sound of thunder to manifest, indeed, but it still not thunder itself.

..would anyone here be able to confirm whether the standard blu-ray contained in the UK 4K release is the 35th anniversary one and not the 2007 one which the US release has in its 4k edition..thanks for any info..
