By the time we get to late September I expect an announcement of 4k.
Now what they might do is 4k only so that the new wave of steelbooks have a bit more value. Other possibility is WB are lagging behind in making the 4k masters so there is some time to wait before they are announced. |

I saw the 4K version of GoldenEye at the Odeon Cinema today and wondered if there was any info on whether the 4K version was finally remastered? I ask because maybe it's the cinematography or film stock but the picture still looks very desaturated.

Streamed The Man with the Golden Gun last night (4K SDR) from Amazon Prime. Aside from the less-than-perfect compression from streaming, the underlying transfer was veeery nice.

Will they restore these films again for UHD or will we get the current 4K transfers with Lowry sharpening and grain removal?
I recently saw Goldfinger in 2160p, and it looked atrocious. The transfer was so bad it took me out of the film. No grain is one thing, but there was smudge around the characters in motion (obviously a defect from the grain removal). I'm aware that the first three Connery films, along with others on blu and 4K, suffer from the misguided and horrendous "Lowry process" (sharpening, frozen grain, etc). I have also seen some of the Bond films in 4k that doesn't suffer from the Lowry-curse, like A View to a Kill, and I believe Diamonds are Forever. AVTAK looked striking in 4K. So again, will they restore these films again for UHD or will we get the current 4K transfers? Goldfinger is ruined in it's current state. |

Is the new Dr. No Blu-ray steelbook the only new steelbook that they've announced? From doing some research, it looks like it's the only one that's been announced but I would have to believe the other Bond movies will soon follow with their own new Blu-ray steelbooks. I will be curious to find out if the Dr. No Blu-ray is using the scan that was used in the 2008 and 2012 Blu-ray releases or if they used a new 4k scan that would possibly also be used for the 4k UHD release, whenever that actually occurs.

They are doing steelbooks for all the remaining ones that weren’t released a few years ago.
LALD for some reason isn’t included, nor is Goldeneye which already has a previously released steel in a different theme to all the others (which are taken from shots of the main titles). |

At least that is what I see now available for 4K streaming – old scans. Last edited by Nicage22; 08-30-2022 at 07:07 PM. |

Watched a couple of the Moore films on Blu-ray over the last week or so. I might be wrong, but The Man with the Golden Gun seems to have some edge enhancement. That one could do with an upgrade. Still think it's got one of the best endings to a Bond film.
Moonraker I thought looked OK overall. Had forgotten how entertaining it is! The cinematography is also notable, particularly in the early parts of the film. |
