I watched all 24 blurays in the collection set and not one bad transfer except A VIEW TO A KILL should have looked better.

I went ahead and ordered the per actor collections from 2015/2020. I like those white slipboxes they each come in. Having trouble getting the Timothy Dalton set though!

With Black Friday around the corner a cheap price on a 4k player would have gotten you started.

This clown is the last person you should count on for anything. His current bonehead claim that Paramount physical releases are going to be immediate halted was easily proven wrong like he always is. lol

There is always someone who cannot see the dnr no matter how thick it is and how frozen the film grain is. haha

Amazon sucks. I've ordered most of the white slip box per-actor sets and ALL but two were damaged. Snaps broken, all corners of the slip box totally crushed. Razor slashes on the top of one set. I had to send most of them back. The Pierce Bronson set I had to send back twice! How hard is it to get a mint copy of these???

Amazon can save you money, but: you get what you pay for.

You should read that link to the Digital Bits again; it does not say they [ the Connery films] are being released next year, it's just a wishlist nothing more.
Don't expect any more 4K releases on physical media for another couple of years - at least until the new actor is confirmed cast and the actual movie is in production.
And as for that - don't hold your breath, Barbara Broccoli appears in no rush at all on that score.
In the meantime, my now-ancient blus of DR NO, FRWL, GOLDFINGER, THUNDERBALL , YOLT and OHMSS do me just fine; these are wonderful films in their own right, time capsules of the 1960s and they look marvellous on my 4K OPPO/LG OLED system, so I can wait for the [negligible] improvement in PQ that the 4K discs will provide. No rush.

What are the consensus on the discs nowadays, which ones hold up and which ones don’t?

What do you mean? I've had that white box set one for quite a few years and all my discs still work fine. I also have the UE DVD box sets and haven't had any issues. I thought it was the older SE DVDs and THX DVDs that rotted.

Sorry I meant the consensus on the transfers not the discs themselves

Oh. If we're talking the best looking transfers I'd say go for the Apple 4K ones. GoldenEye looks miles better on that one and I like the Blu-rays otherwise for the most part. The Blu-rays have original mono/stereo tracks on them too.

A 4K Blu-ray box set is probably still a long way off, if it ever happens at all, so I'm not holding my breath. At most, they would release the Connery films to gauge interest for the rest of the series. I was in that survey where they were asking. I don't know why they never licensed these out to Kino Lorber or Arrow when they had the chance. Even if you had individual releases at $30/ea, people would have bought them.

The first three [ DR NO, FRWL, GOLDFINGER] were photo-chemically restored from the OCNs back in the day by Lowry, because the prints that were discovered were in such a parlous state [ MOONRAKER was given this treatment, too, due to the optical elements in the 'climax' - but, hey! who cares about that one?...]
The others, from THUNDERBALL on, were merely digitally restored - so the first three are considered [rightly] to look the best. I think they look great, 15 years on.

Goldeneye sticks out as having a processed look, but most of the rest look good for BD. They all could be improved no end though.

The frustrating thing is that many of them have been improved. Just not on disc yet.

Good - but "not perfect". The incorrectly "fixed" earthquake shudder in A View to a Kill, and the squeezed credits sequence on The World Is Not Enough, just two examples. Plus numerous audio issues, the most obvious being the horrendous down-mixing of the music score in OHMSS during the Gunbold safe cracking sequence.

I guess I haven't noticed, but with OHMSS, is this in the 5.1 mix or mono mix? I always listened to the mono mix on that one, always thought it sounded better and was probably more accurate.

Yeah, it's the 5.1 mix that's messed up. The mono mix is fine (not sure the UK got some of the mono mixes, however. I got the US discs for this reason)
