Moonraker I thought looked OK overall. Had forgotten how entertaining it is! The cinematography is also notable, particularly in the early parts of the film.
Yeah been rewatching them, noticed some edge enhancement on quite a few of the bonds as well as some noticeable Lowry processing. For your eyes only looks pretty DNRed.

I'm planning to rewatch For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill next.

Moonraker is a fun movie, but it looks horrendous on blu-ray. I saw it projected and there was literally no grain in the picture.

I can't figure out how these films got any good reviews back in 2009. We must not have cared about filmic grain back then.

Some of these transfers have now been released in 4K. Same dreadful grain removal. Goldfinger is in a very bad shape at the moment. So is Thunderball.

Anyone who grew up watching the early Bonds on ITV on Christmas Day may not agree with the “bad shape” comment. Yes of course they could look better, but compared to what we had these are more than adequate until something better comes along.

I didn't grow up with ITV here in the States, but I do remember ABC "Movie of the Week" airings back in the 1980s, and definitely agree with you.

After spending the 1990s watching movies on ITV I regard almost every bluray as a miracle. Then when a better transfer comes along I just take it as another miracle.

Smaller, 1080p-at-best displays back then.

Today's displays reveal every little flaw and anything DNRed/sharpened looks much, much worse.

Watched the Goldeneye Blu-ray upscaled to 4K the other night, and yes, it looked even worse than before. Yikes.

Doesn't say what he said, so we'll have to take their word for it, I guess...

From the reports, he gave a talk where he spoke much about his sexual conquests (dragging young woemn into his car for instance, chasing the daughters of producers). He made some homophobic remarks, and made light of the Queens death, or her health.

I had no idea James Bond was family friendly? Interesting...

Was that the recent cinema showing? I really wasn't impressed by the GoldenEye 4K either. I'm told it was a brand new transfer.

Ugly in 1080p, and even worse upscaled to 4K.

At least Lazenby apologized. Langella was all like, "What do you mean I can't put my hand there?"

Not even in the same galaxy as the point.

And the old DVDs look and sound great.

If a blocky and sharpened appearance with no grain, and smudge around our hero, is adequate, then I don't know what to tell you. I also remember the old broadcasts, and I surely enjoyed Goldfinger more back then.

These classic movies deserve better than this. In addition, they are big sellers. Don't let them get away with being lazy. They cannot release the Lowry-abomination in 4K. Some of them (not all) need a proper restoration.

You don’t have to tell me anything, I didn’t say they were great, just better than they were on TV in the 70’s.

And there’s no need for the rather condescending tone either….

Boy, people on this particular forum is sensitive. I wasn't attacking you at all, good sir.

Back in the 90's, when I saw Bond on the telly for the first time, I was enjoying the film itself. Today - in 4K no less - it's impossible to enjoy Goldfinger the same way (even though it technically has a better transfer) because we expect much better than a botched restoration. We expect something similar to the way Spartacus (1960) looks on blu-ray and in 4K.

The Lowry process might have looked spectacular back in 2009, but it looks awful today.

I'm surprised very few people in this thread are talking about this as we are taking the leap to 4K. They continue to use the old Lowry Digital transfers for the 4K streams that I have seen.
