That end though, sheesh. You can't make box office records doing that. Lol.

For me, OHMSS is the best I've seen yet.

I'm not necessarily disappointed Lazenby quit. Perhaps it was wise. An actor is only as good as the script. Diamonds are Forever was bad. I haven't even seen the Moore films, but no way will they be this good. It seems like the scripts/directing went south quick. I somehow doubt Lazenby could have saved Diamonds.
One of the very best Bond films by far

Every trailer I see for OHMSS makes it look ridiculously cheesy. Is it really that good? I haven't seen anyone say a negative thing about it.

No, I haven't. I've four of Connery's pictures, all of Craig's and Brosnan's pictures, and I think I've seen one of Dalton's but I can't remember if I have.

Live and Let Die was awful, absolutely dreadful.

Talk about ripping the soul out of the film/franchise. Yuck.

I just watched From Russia With Love again last night, and saw a detail I'd never noticed before. In the beginning at the chess match, the flag on the Canadian player's side is a Canadian Red Ensign, because the film was made two years before Canada adopted the current maple leaf flag.

I love the detail of High Def. Yes, I suppose you could see that on other releases too, but it stood out to me and it never has before.

It was no more cheesy than any other pre-1985 Bond film. I watched "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" last night. As time goes by, I (and a lot of the James Bond fan base, evidently) realize it's not a bad movie. We hated it when it came out in 1969, (those of us who were old enough to see it in theaters when it came out in real time) simply because Sean Connery wasn't in it. Sure George Lazenby wasn't a great actor, (neither was Gary Cooper or John Wayne, really) but he had the unenviable job of taking over the role that Connery had made famous in five previous movies. The plot of this movie is actually better than the one that followed it, "Diamonds Are Forever" which saw Connery return to the role...for money...an unprecedented $1.25 million bucks, a record at the time. The worst part about OHMSS? Telly Savalas' dreadful performance as Blofeld. His accent comes and goes worse than Costner's in that awful Robin Hood movie he made. But this is a decent flick. Time to stop dissing Lazenby, he did ok and he'd have made a great Bond if he hadn't been so young and arrogant with his demands and ideas. He probably would have made 4 or 5 more good Bond films.

Default Over most American's heads...

One thing I wanted to mention on here, about OHMSS, that UK residents know and have known all along, but we Americans and others don't. The title of the book and movie in itself is a play on words, like most Bond titles.

In England, on the envelopes of any official government mail that you receive, are the words "On Her Majesty's Service" which is similar to our "Official Business, Penalty For Private Use $300" on mail from Uncle Sam. So for all this time, the little pun was lost on anyone not living in the UK. Right over our heads. I only discovered it when I lived there from 1998-2000.

But the story goes that Fleming didn't make it up himself, he was sailing someplace and saw a yacht or sailboat named OHMSS and borrowed it.

Bond50 just hit $80 on FoxConnect.

It's a great price but I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Disc sleeves are guaranteed scratches and FoxConnect is horrible to deal with if you have a problem

If I didn't have all I wanted I would be all over that price @ <$4 each, mostly exquisitely remastered. Fan-tastic deal.

Any minor scratching that could occur due to insertion and removal are not an issue, and I doubt they are 'guaranteed'.
cheers

[Show spoiler]
With the added irony being, of course, that for large chunks of the story, Bond isn't acting On Her Majesty's [Secret] Service at all, but for personal reasons.
