Just finished Octopussy. It honestly wasn't that bad. The script was unbelievably convoluted. The majority of the first half was made pointless. Watching 009 crash into the consolidate in a clown suit and drop that egg had me so hooked. The whole Russian bit was dumb and should have been left out.
An unnecessarily convoluted plot seems to be common in these Bond films. I don't mind a complicated plot with mystery if it all fits and makes sense at the end. A lot of them don't. In fact, in most of the films Bond would have hit a dead end if people weren't trying to kill him randomly. Last edited by Dreamliner330; 10-02-2015 at 01:50 AM. |

I'm still stuck back on Goldfinger, though. Real life is kicking my butt. Edit: I finished Goldfinger tonight. Bond vs. Oddjob was pretty cool. All the military guys passing out was hilarious. Overall, a very entertaining film. I got 30 minutes into Thunderball. I didn't mind the slow start, but that theme song... wow that was awful. Last edited by MattO; 10-02-2015 at 05:22 AM. |

As I watched through the Moore films, it just felt like the story was written specifically to encompass all the different locations. A lot of it felt unnecessary. I'm sure new films do it too, but it just really stood out to me in the Moore series. That's all.

Just finished A View To A Kill. Not bad. Just dull. Not a lot happened. Bond seemed tired. It was refreshing in a way. He seemed much more calculating.
It's interesting looking back, it seems like some films had a high budget, others had a small budget. Some were super cheesy, some tried to be serious. No real pattern. Even with the same director and writers one film to the next would have a really different tone. Except the humor, I think I liked TMWTGG best from the Moore series. Part of me wants to sell Connery Vol 2 and Moore Vol 1&2. I don't really think I'll watch them again, not before 4K anyhow. I still have Never Say Never Again to watch and I'm going to retry a different version of Thunderball to see if I like it better. Next up is Dalton though. Looking forward to it. |

I would like the TV version of Casino Royale to get an official release. Someone put it out a few years back, but I think it was a bootleg release. I think part of the end credits are missing from the Kinescope. Maybe a company could recreate them.

It was on the first DVD release of the '67 movie, but it was left off the 2-disc and the Blu-ray for some reason.

I am not in favor of Idris Elba getting the role. As written, Bond is a white Englishman. It's not a racist issue. Elba would make a great PI, detective or secret agent, just not James Bond. What's next then? A white Shaft? A Native American Charlie Chan? An African Miss Marple? A Mexican Inspector Piorot? One can be in favor of retaining the fictional character as written in literature without being called a racist. |
