I will take something utterly goofy (yet fun as hell) as Bond boning women in space, SAS troops that are Space Shuttle trained, and hovercraft gondolas over the dour, depressing ultra-serious, ultra-dark Daniel Craig movies any day of the week.

I saw The Spy Who Loved Me back in 1977 when my parents and grandparents had a night out at the movies and took along a 12-year-old me (I distinctly remember not wanting to see it!), and what a life altering evening that was. Thus began a lifelong fascination and love for this character and these movies, and I haven't missed a Bond film theatrically in the past 40 years.

Thanks so much to Sir Roger Moore for introducing me to the world of James Bond and whatever a fans preference for the actor playing Bond, Moore was the man who was my generations 007, and his light yet colorful and entertaining entries were always much anticipated. R.I.P.

And yes, I saw Moonraker in 1979 and loved it...and still do.

The Bond films have been a huge part of my life and he was MY James Bond. As a child I always referred to him as James Bond and Sean Connery as the "other" James Bond. He did a great job of bringing whit and charm in equal measures to the character and had the difficult job of replacing Sean Connery.

I've always maintained that no matter what people think of his more humorous portrayal of Bond, Roger Moore was the glue that held the series together for many years. There was a lot of upheaval in the series after Connery first left in 1967, so by the time Spy Who Loved Me started filming it was an all or nothing affair and if it failed, there was the very real possibility that the series would end. Thankfully, it was a hit and Moore took real ownership of the role after that and ensured it would be a lasting franchise and not just a holdover of a 60s fad.

I'm a hybrid ... grew up between Sean Connery and Roger Moore's turns at Bond. So these were my 2 faves.

R.I.P. Mr. Moore. You've brought me great pleasure.

EDIT: And there are also fond memories of Roger Moore as Beau Maverick.

I'm trying to make #AToastToRogerMoore happen today on social media. Raise your glass -- whatever you're drinking -- to Roger Moore tonight and share it on social media. I'll be breaking out some Pappy Van Winkle for the occasion. http://thejamesbondsocialmediaprojec...ore-1927-2017/

I grew up with Moore as Bond, and he will always be my favorite. I remember listening to "For Your Eyes Only" every night on the radio when it came out. It fascinated me. Still the best Bond theme, IMO...followed by "Nobody Does It Better" ("The Spy Who Loved Me.")
