Did he use the right files? The site where I downloaded them had two sets of files. One for the 605, and one for the 705/905.

1. What FW version does he now have/is displayed on the 605 front panel ?

2. As mentioned before, what file did he download and use ?
(name of file used)

3. What DSP version does he now have/is displayed on the 605 front panel ?

Once the 605 displayed 'Writing...' and finsihed, it displayed 'Complete' then 'Clear' and reset on it's own.

well, in spite of an earlier post where i said i'd hold off on updating th DSP software in my 605, I did it anyway today...

worked like a charm. used an older 5-CD sony player with optical out.

consider this another successful US update.

Just a little warning be careful, i think the DSP update has dome something to be optical connections. Im getting quite bad distortion through my mac (via optical) to the receiver.

HDMI is fine.

this is EXACTLY what ive been saying. using a update not meant for usa may do something that isnt desireable. took a while for the dts ma thing to come out and only time will tell if the foreign update will have any negative afftects.

if an update made for your unit has had some negative affect, wonder what it would do with a usa unit.

edit: seems to cause you concern since you posted the issue

True but like i said it seems to be an isolated case, it always helps to post just in case someone had the same problem and maybe a possible solution.

Tried the Audyssey calibration several times now after the update, but it keeps giving bad figures for the LFE channel. In the end, my sub isn't doing anything even if I crank it up to the max. When the Equalizer is set to off it comes back with a sh*tload of bass

Anyone else had this?

I am pretty sure I have one of the first 605s that needs this update. With the latest PS3 announcement that it will now do "something" with DTS-HDMA, do I need to get this patch, or does it only fix the "popping" noise that you hear when you switch between sources?

I tried to do this thing myself and that was a bust. I don't have a CD player with an optical cord. If you have a PS3, you don't need a stand alone CD player nice enough to have an optical out in your entertainment center.

I don't want to unplug all the wires, speaker wires, etc. that are in the back of that thing, then mail it off to some place so they can patch it, then have them send it back. If it survives the trip to and from, it could still leave me without a receiver for a long time.

I don't have an issue with the popping people complain about, so unless that patch makes the Onkyo 605 do stuff it didn't do before, why would anyone go to all the trouble of getting the patch???? Somebody help me out here.

The popping noise only occurs when the receiver is used to decode the audio. Since you are using a PS3, this issue will not affect you.

Weird..

I'm using HDMI, but when Audyssey is enabled, my sub just won't move anything, it's almost totally silent. When Audyssey is disabled, my sub is moving the room. Speakers are okay, it's just too bad you won't be able to see the equalizer setting when using the Audyssey calibration, or else I would have copied them and do the sub myself

I was so fixated on my optical bass being distorted that i didn't even notice that when im hooked up through HDMI i have the same problem as you! Little or practically no bass! If you can try an optical cable and let us know how it sounds that would be great.

Nothing yet, its a shame because the locks were seeming so much quicker with the update. I'm going to try and use another CD player and update again and see what happens.
