Tools required: CD player with optical output port, Blank CD-R and optical cable,

it doesnt specify any special cd player other than optical out
but it does say they dont recommend windows or itunes to burn

I've reset the settings, unplugged it and redid the calibration.

It came up with the same results again, so it must be either a failure, or this is the way it should actually work, which I doubt. If I cranked up the subwoofer to max it still gave little to nothing

I cranked up the volume on my sub a bit, then changed the distance and changed the sub level in my 805.

I now have better bass again, but this isn't the way it should work. The Audyssey should reduce or increase certain frequencies, measure the average distances and change volume levels to match the room. Instead, I get very good calibrated speakers with non LFE signal.

I tried everything, but it looks like you're gonna have to do the sub yourself

I just checked online and it said mine did not need this update for the DTSMA. I have a newer model so I guess it is not a problem with mine.

Have a look here, the main update for the 805 isn't around yet, but it is for the rest of them, really not sure what it does though!

Yep it seems your right, it somehow messes up how loud it thinks the sub is. Very strange.

some points to note:
1. you must register your receiver before you can access the download
2. you can only access the download site once... at least that's what the site says when you connect to it
3. the download is for the DSP updates only
4. the DSP appears to be the same as the European update, filename and size are identical.
5. there is no download to upgrade the firmware to 1.08 released by Onkyo USA to the public (yet).

I just picked up the NR-905 and just wondering if the new machines would have the firmware updates already done?

I downloaded the DSP update from the Onkyo site (from the link posted at AVS) and performed the update on our 705 last night using a PS3. Not really necessary if we're using the PS3, but maybe we'll get a standalone Blu-ray player someday and I want to be covered in that case.

I downloaded the update this weekend and used my old Sony DVD player to write the update to my 605. It took a couple of times but it finally updated. Thanks to un4gvn for the help. This forum is outstanding and very informative!
