I agree. I use the S90C for gaming and as my main PC monitor. But it took a LOT of sacrifice for me to buy it due to no DV, and no DTS.
But I have the LG C1 still, and I use it for movie watching. I have a receiver if I want the audio properly shat out (but I usually prefer to listen "loud" with my projector).

Thankfully, last year LG's OLEDs (C3 and higher, at least) brought it back.
That was a real bonheaded move these last few years.

Please confirm... Is the TV actually performing DTS decoding internally or is it just passing the DTS bitstream to an external decoder?

Cheers

Couldn't say. Didn't look that far into it.

Again, because my personal setup doesn't need it.

However, I glanced through rtings a few months ago and from what I recall, eARC will passthrough DTS:X and DTS-HD 7.1 now.
Not sure if the TV itself will do it with their icky, yucky speakers.

So sadly no then, onboard DTS decoding hasn't been re-instated. Which is a great shame!

Since Blu-ray is the only format that supports DTS "regularly", they and others see no reason for TVs to decode it since BD players will decode to PCM anyway. All TV shows and most streaming is done either with DD or DD+, stuff the TV natively streams and receives (stuff without needing an external device).

Hmmm... Smart TV's are supposed to offer flexibility and one of their features is network and USB media file playback. TV manufacturers (even Sony) are fully aware that people back-up their movie discs and want to play them using their TV's media player.

Given that some TV manufacturers continue to offer native DTS decoding a better argument would be that the ones who don't, don't want to pay for DTS licensing, if that really is the issue!

DTS decoding also takes more horsepower. You'd be surprised at the number of chipsets that offer only passthrough and not decoding, compared to Dolby Digital and TrueHD (and now Atmos).

Sony and others may be aware of it, but they do not want people "backing up" their movie discs. That's what digital copies are for and why they offer native apps in their smart TVs. The media player is for camcorder/cell phone captures and the like, and people don't use DTS for those either.

Hmmm... Any TV fitted with a MediaTek chip-set is capable of decoding 'lossy' DTS and even the DTS core found within DTS-HD MA streams... Even my old 2016 LG TV can do this!

I can confirm that this indeed has HDR10+
Please can it be added to the list.

Also i notice Requiem For A Dream is on the list twice (it needs removing from under 'K'). The ordering of 'X' and 'Y' are also the wrong way around.

Thanks.

Wondering if it's time to stick a fork on HDR10+ yet?
Cause it's looking like a practically dead HDR format at this point, well on physical media that is.
First went Fox due to them being bought out by Disney whom never supported HDR10+ in the first place. Then neither Universal nor Warner Bros have used HDR10+ in the past year or two. And now it looks like even Capelight Pictures is starting to move away from HDR10+ in favor of Dolby Vision.
Maybe it's time for Samsung to just give up on the format too and just pay the extra license fee for DV? Who knows, lol.

Seem like Dolby just took over the entire home video market at this point, lol.

With regards to HDR10+, it was backed primarily by Samsung, they got out of the 4K Player business nearly 2 years ago... Its introduction was an odd play in attempt to get licensing fee, after ditching the marketplace.

You forget they're the largest television maker. That's a lot of non-DV TVs being sold every year.

It the only market for HDR10+ was the disc market, and you no longer make players, it's kind of pointless.

It's not. Several streaming services offer it as an option (unfortunately).
