I’m “store friends” with the local BBY manager, in December I asked him who was winning the tv race this holiday season, he said Samsung was winning by far. I’ve no idea what kind of model mix, lots of 4K, but not sure how many had full HDR10 quality.

Shame shame shame. At least LG is climbing, hope that's all OLEDs.
The reason why Samsung is in the lead over LG is because of the price not the quality. LG OLED TVs are more expensive. If the OLED were priced lower and more affordable to the mass consumers, LG would be number one.

Samsungs Q6fn I think sells well in the western world and the Nu8000 line. Those seem like to the average joe a good HDR product that doesn't break the bank for even 65" sizes on up to the 82".

They don't get it's not that capable of a product aside from colour coverage; and no DV support. Basically those folk are paying for size only and not as much panel lottery concern (that you can get with TCL/Vizio, admittedly).

Ferrari would outsell the Ford Focus if it was priced the same as a focus too.

Humans are insanely tribal. Well, most of them. It's downright dangerous with politics, religion and race. At least with home media it's just annoying.

When I got my set in 2016 it was pretty much renown for being the best of the sub-$2000 HDR televisions. I hear Samsungs have gone downhill since, but they probably built up a lot of goodwill when they were better. It takes consumers a while to adjust.

I doubt if any OLED can hit that peak brightness that I.saw on the Samsung Q900R. It simply looked breathtaking in store.

But the average joe also cares more about screen size than actual picture quality, so it makes sense Samsung dominated there.

They absolutely can't.

But two things.. For $5-6K for just the 65" you'd want it to look breathtaking. And OLED isn't for "in store" conditions. It's pretty specifically for light controlled spaces. Either watching predominantly at night or with low-ambient or blackout blinds conditions in daytime.

QLED looks like straight trash compared to any OLED.

You guys realize Dolby Vision with the tech to change from scene to scence, were still not seeing true DV because we still have 10 bit panels where DV and HDR10+ are 12 bit. I found over the years the hype is bigger then the product itself, not quite as good as the hype.I aspect HDR10+ to be no different than DV in terms of how they look. This is how these companies get us to pony up cash because we have to have the latest greatest.Until we get 12 bit panels how it looks is all in the mind.

No. 10+ is 10-bit - hence the '10' in the name - and all 12-bit panels will bring is the ability to have yet smoother gradations of colour. Why people think that HDR will be transformed by this is a mystery to me as it's hard enough for some people to gauge the differences now, never mind the even subtler improvements that 12-bit will bring.

With the absolute greatest of respect to someone I don't know from Adam, if you're not getting what you think you should be getting from HDR then you should look at your current equipment chain, not pin your hopes on future tech.

Samsung is still a good brand. It isn't a Sony or LG but I wouldn't make much of it. My mother asked for my help in TV shopping last year and wanted a 720p set. I tried to go 4K and offered to buy it for her but had settled on 1080p. It was more about TV size than anything.

Given the rate at which Fox outputs such big catalogue releases, you can expect more 10+ golden oldies at the rate of about two per year

As you know, makes little difference to me.

But since 2017 HDR10 encodes by Fox have been superb quality. HDR10+ won't compromise that as Dolby Vision maybe could (optional layer size)
