Yeah, the FZ950 is a 2018 model. You’re right.

Actually, 8-bit can reproduce all tones that a human can see. But even so, 10-bit is important to help with transitions between tones and to avoid some artifacts.
I think most people here can discern between 8 & 10-bit material.

You didn’t get my point. I suggest studying eye physiology (Berne & Levy is a good book, but Guyton’s would do), and then re-reading what I wrote.

I never said the jump to 10-bit was pointless.

I think Panasonic's Chroma Upsampling is superior than the one done by the Sony X-800 that I think now it's an average or below average performer with HDR material. And Panasonic's HDR Optimizer will be the icing of the cake. I think both will do a clearly visible improvement on my mid range 49" Samsung set and inexpensively as Panasonic player are quite affordable.
It's a super little player.

Upgraded my Panasonic last night. Found out that there was a firmware update where they added HDR10+. I suggest everyone check if a similar update is available for their player.

I don't mind if it's a small or little player,it seems by the reviews I've read that performs as well as more expensive Pansonic players, they only cut corners here and there and made a cheaper looking and an HDMI out only player. Am I right?
But it seems it's going to be difficult to get it. Currys PC World doesn't ship outside the UK, in a global world this seems silly.

It literally has the exact same processor at its core, only with a few bits 'n' bobs locked out in the firmware. 9000 is built like a tank and has XLR outputs and all that jazz, but for about an eight of the price the 420 will do much the same job, minus DV of course, but then that's broken anyway in the Panny player implementation.

The 420 doesn’t have streaming apps. So if you need to watch Netflix or Prime Video you can’t take advamtage of the HDR Optimizer.

Speaking purely for myself, I don't give a rat's ass about streaming. Hence why I'm fine with the 420 and the OPPO 203.

Some movies are only available via streaming so while I can see that streaming is shit, sometimes I have no choice.

I've been able to resist its siren song thus far. Let's just say if I do want to see anything that's a streaming exclusive then I don't pay for it. Discs I'll pay through the nose for, but paying for streaming? **** 'em.

Yeah, I won’t pay for streaming either.

Lionsgate said they might release HDR10+ and Dolby Vision combos. I would imagine Dolby Vision decoders ignore the HDR10+ metadata and see the base HDR10 layer and secondary DV layer, and then do their thing as normal.

HDR10+ decoders see the added dynamic metadata tags and ignore the DV layer.

Cool if this has the hdr10+, I jumped on the preorder some time ago, can't wait to check it out. I thought this film was great. Totally out of left field, but great.

You guys know that Lionsgate (who own Summit, just FYI ray) have already released a DV and HDR10+ disc, right?
