Because Dolby developed HDR10 and released it to the market as an open standard and then Samsung takes it and makes it a proprietary format (inferior to DV) rather than pay a meager licensing fee for Dolby Vision that even the lowest of the low-end TV makers have no trouble doing. Also knowing that companies like LG & Sony aren't going to license their main competitions' format either.

So yes, strange. Doesn't make sense.

I am still not sure why it is strange. My understanding is DV and HDR10+ are competing formats within HDR10. Some big studios don’t even bother to release their 4K titles with DV. Surely DV isn’t that essential. Inferior to DV? Ermm according to whom? Have you actually watch anything on HDR10+? There are comparison videos and websites. It is easy to see there is little or no difference between the formats. All depends on viewers personal taste. I have titles on HDR10+ and they look absolutely stunning. It looks like the issue is not The quality of HDR10+, it is more being prejudice.

Not accurate. You may actually call HDR10 "Dolby Vision Lite".

Mainly Disney, and even then only on disc. All their streaming stuff is mastered and streamed in Dolby Vision.

I have a Sony, so no HDR10+ support. It's a Samsung format.
DV on disc supports 12-bit in it's full version (FEL) used on Paramount and Lionsgate titles. 10+ doesn't do that. 10+ is a purely automated process where DV can be automated or done by the colorist on a shot by shot basis. Most titles these days are done in DV and the resulting versions are derived from there (HDR, SDR, etc).

You can't tell by "comparison videos".

Most telling is that studios are dropping support for HDR10+ on UHD disc and going DV only - several Warner & Universal titles of late are either HDR10 only or Dolby Vision/HDR10. 10+ has disappeared. Haven't you noticed the pickings in this thread are becoming increasingly rare?

Most streaming services only do DV or HDR10.

Do you understand now?

In Australia , AMBULANCE 4K lists HDR10+ on the back. I just put it in and it's incorrect. Another Universal SONY stuff up

Well if Sony was involved that was a pretty good indicator it wouldn't have it.

How so? Was that just a bit of a jibe at Sony for other reasons or do they actually not do it ever?: EDIT . The penny just dropped, Sony TV's don't do HDR10+ Although nothing stopping Sony Pictures from supporting a format their cousin business can't use.
The US packaging does not show the HDR10+ logo, it's only the boofheads at Universal Sony Australia.
I wonder if they think that the logo represents HDR10 and don't actually know what the + signifies?

Warners are still putting 10+ on their UHDs? Neat.
