Because Dolby developed HDR10 and released it to the market as an open standard and then Samsung takes it and makes it a proprietary format (inferior to DV) rather than pay a meager licensing fee for Dolby Vision that even the lowest of the low-end TV makers have no trouble doing. Also knowing that companies like LG & Sony aren't going to license their main competitions' format either.
So yes, strange. Doesn't make sense. |

DV on disc supports 12-bit in it's full version (FEL) used on Paramount and Lionsgate titles. 10+ doesn't do that. 10+ is a purely automated process where DV can be automated or done by the colorist on a shot by shot basis. Most titles these days are done in DV and the resulting versions are derived from there (HDR, SDR, etc). Quote:
Most telling is that studios are dropping support for HDR10+ on UHD disc and going DV only - several Warner & Universal titles of late are either HDR10 only or Dolby Vision/HDR10. 10+ has disappeared. Haven't you noticed the pickings in this thread are becoming increasingly rare? Most streaming services only do DV or HDR10. Do you understand now? |

![]() The US packaging does not show the HDR10+ logo, it's only the boofheads at Universal Sony Australia. I wonder if they think that the logo represents HDR10 and don't actually know what the + signifies? Last edited by shueardm; 06-26-2022 at 12:47 AM. |
