Can someone help me here please. How many manufacturers of TV's available to Purchase in the US will have the capability of supporting HDR10+ playback?

I was expecting all the cheaper Chinese brands to come on board but it seems they have nailed their colours to the DV Mast

I could only find Samsung, surely this cannot be right

You're right, in 2018 models only Samsung will produce HDR10+ capable tvs for the US market. However, Samsung sells more tvs in the US than Sony and LG combined, to put it into perspective. If HDR10+ gathers any more steam from content creators, it will start to become harder for LG and Sony to ignore. They'll either add it via fw, or maybe to their 2019 models. If it ends up on 100's of UHD Blu-ray discs, it could be hard for them to ignore. It will be interesting to see if PowerDVD 18 adds support for HDR10+ and/or Dolby Vision.

Only the biggest TV manufacturer in the world. No big deal.

I hope you take disappointment well, cause DV isn’t going anywhere and you seem very invested in it’s failure.

So we have One TV Manufacturer in the US and Two Studios behind HDR10+, correct me if I am wrong? Just trying to make sure I understand this right

Technically, Amazon creates original content. Many others are interested. My belief is that UHD Blu-ray discs need to utilize the second HDR layer in all cases. Instead of releasing most discs HDR10 only, they need to either add Dolby Vision to every disc, add HDR10+ to every disc, or choose a mix of both. What I don't want is HDR10 only.

If Fox and Warner Bros. start adding dynamic metadata to every single disc and other studios are okay with only putting Dolby Vision on one in every ten discs, then I think that would be pretty stupid. It's clear to me that there is room for both dynamic HDR formats to do great. There is no way that a 10-bit format can replace a superior 12-bit format, but we shall see how these cards play out over the coming years.

A TV manufacturer that sells more TVs than their competitors combined, yes. Along with two studios, one of which has more UHD released than any other studio (WB) with more to come.

All of this in only 9 months after it was officially announced.

DV has like 5 discs 3 years after it was announced. LOL!

It's quite simple actually. Heat's not a bad guy, he's just a devoted Samsung customer who has hoped for Dolby Vision to do bad, because he wants to stick with the number one company, that he is (with all due respect) a fanboy of. He doesn't want to ever have to purchase a new system that includes Dolby Vision, so he's invested in it's failure. It's the same reason why people who owned major logging companies were very happy to see hemp become illegal in the 1930's...

HDR10+ is smashing DV worse than Cain Velasquez smashed Brock Lesnar at UFC 121.

HDR10+ is not available yet so it can’t “smash” anything right now.

I would suggest this thread is locked and then reopened when/if the discs with HDR10+ appear. There are only so many Antonio Banderas gifs you can view in one thread

Maybe that is how you feel Heat, but save us from having to see you use the same exact gif 100 times. How hard is it to at least find a new one you haven't already used? It seems like spam when you post the exact same gif and make the exact same type of posts designed to try and rile up other people. This is how it makes us feel...

Well, considering your “problem” with DV is disc based, that’s irrelevant. We’re talking disc based here are we not? Because if you’re including streaming, DV still has HDR10+ beat considering the amount of DV enabled titles on Vudu, Netflix, iTunes. Some consistency from you would be nice.

Everything we are posting is self-evident to everyone except him. What you just wrote goes without saying. Heat is like a dog chasing his own tail. He thinks he's chasing something else. Just give him a dog treat and say "good boy" and maybe this will all be over.

Yeah, I don’t know why I expected an honest response. I guess I’ve been away a little too long. I agree, HDR10+ will be huge. I can’t wait to triple dip.

"Hi BestBuy employee, I want a new TV and heard about HDR. What is it?"

"It makes bright things brighter and dark things darker."

"Oh, great. Which one do you recommend?"

"The Samsungs are the most popular but the Sonys are better overall."

"I see, what's Dolby Vision mean on this Sony?"

"An HDR format. Samsung uses HDR10+."

"What's the difference?"

"HDR10+ is like a free version of Dolby Vision but has less color information."

"Oh, how much does Dolby Vision cost?"

"Doesn't cost anything for you, the movie studios license it but movies still cost the same."

"Oh okay. I'll get the Samsung because even though you said it has less colors the in-store demo is oversaturated and looks prettier."

It's a shame that this fictional customer uses iTunes and will never get any use out of HDR10+. Probably won't change the color tone to Warm 2 like the monster they truly are, either.
