[Show spoiler] There's probably a better plastic bin container for these, but I'm on a roll with these particular bins, and there's no turning back now. Haha. I like mine, because, once the Blu-rays are in there pretty snug, they don't shift around during transport. I moved to my new home this summer, and all of my Blu-rays survived the trip without a scratch or even a floater disc. |

I organize my blurays by different parameters.
Members of each group are organized alphabetically. By packaging: -all steelbooks together -all digibooks together -all boxsets (2 or more movies) together by studio: - All Criterion - All Arrow - All Ghibli Silhouette line - All Twilight Time alphabetically: the rest packaging> studio That means if I have an Arrow steelbook, this will go in the steelbooks group and not in the Arrow group. |

So I decided to do something different with my collection. I have twohttp://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-...Tower/16451702 of these with adjustable shelves and one fixed shelf. Nothing fancy, so I decided to put my Scream Factory first since I have more of those. Then my Criterions blu rays even though I only own 4. Then for some reason I just gave up on the rest. Put them in alphabet. Cause my boxset wouldn't fit on the corner due to the removable bolt? That stick out on the top corner so I just put the rest in alphabet order. My Omen collection won't even fit due to the size. Same size as an dvd. But for now I kind of like it even though it full and my other blus are stack up on the floor.
Will definitely be building me a shelf. Hopefully by early of next month. |

Mine's currently organized by what's in the pull out drawers; the little bit that's in bookcases; and the bulk is what's in the closets (and pretty well organized) and what's not in the closets (hardly organized at all, but mostly in boxes).
Was on the verge of getting some Ikea bookcases to help with the clutter, but stuff happened this year and that got put on the back burner. In reality those shelves would probably only help a bit. Wife won't let me take over the dining room with bookcases, however, and I don't want them to end up in the far less climate controlled unfinished basement, so rather limited in my options. What really needs to be done first is to go thru the closets and merge the new with the old and weed out the stuff that's since been upgraded to blu-ray. It's been a while since I had a chance to do that. (I used to do this fairly regularly while the wife was away traveling, but she doesn't do that any more.) Now I'm getting close to having some time and inclination to tackle it again (I'll just have to work around her 4-day work week schedule somehow). Think I'll start with the mess that hasn't been organized at all yet. Merge it with the mess that has been organized. Then merge all that with what's in the closets, which is pretty well organized. Then hopefully by the time I can get them bookcases, the hard part will mostly be done. Maybe even start next week if I get a chance, and plug along for as long as it takes. Aside from Criterion and a few import labels which I sort by spine, I sort things into categories, then each category by its title. My categories are English language films, Foreign language films, Television, Music, Documentaries, Silent Films, Animation/Disney. I also usually separate out cardboard packaged items (including the box sets) into their own section. (And for the time being, once it's watched it gets moved elsewhere out of the way... which is why I'd like to get some shelving in place so I won't need to do that any more.) It's time to clean up this mess again. (Edit: Rather than another post, just an update, early August 2016 I did manage to sort most all my dvds, pull out the stuff that I now have on blu-ray for more permanent storage elsewhere, and stuff the rest back in the closet, now all sort of sorted/organized. Had enough room left over to put cds in there too. The watched/listened-to stuff goes elsewhere for the time being. Also did a preliminary sort of the blu-rays, but long way to go with them yet. Getting the itch again to get shelves (with doors to keep out the dust), but probably not in the budget until early next year.) Last edited by fdm; 08-28-2016 at 08:04 PM. |

I am totally alphabetical because I remember movies by their titles, so when I want to watch Something I'll find it in the S area.
Ideally I'd have drawers rather than shelves, with the discs in something like those slotted holders sold by IKEA. The spines would be much easier to read because they'd be in a readable orientation rather than the neck-strain inducing orientation they're in with shelves. I suppose, however, that they could be stacked on shelves so that the text is oriented for readability. No matter whether you use bins, shelves or drawers you're going to have to deal with shifting titles around at some point to make room for new purchases. |

Exactly I was surprised how solid they are. Got them on sale about a year ago for 15$ plus tax. Also use them for Dvds before this year when I upgraded to Blu Ray.

I have mine organized into genres. My Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher movies are the only movies that get their own sections, since they're my two favorite directors. TV shows also stand alone. My DVDs and Blu rays are mixed together.
Here are my categories: Action/Adventure Comedy Drama Fantasy Science Fiction Anime TV Shows |

I used to have mine organized like this:
Criterion Twilight Time Oscilloscope Digibooks Steelbooks Multi-Feature All other movies in alphabetical order TV Shows DVDs (Which I have very few so they just random) Bigger Boxsets were on top of a book shelf Recently I tried to cut down on all of the different categories and I now have them organized like this: DVDs TV Shows Multi-Feature (with box sets that have multiple features) Collector Editions in Bigger Boxes All other movies in alphabetical Criterion |

Prior to my move to Charleston, I had 2 cabinets, one Blu-ray and one DVD, each alphabetical.
Now I have them all alphabetical, Blu-ray and DVD combined, doesn't matter what they are...the type of case, studio or genre. Funny thing, I found 3 duplicates where I had things in Blu-ray and DVD and had missed that fact...eBay = more money to buy more Blu! |
