Alphabetical order. Once I reach a certain amount of BDs, I'll do it like this: 4K-Criterion-Action-Animation-Drama-etc

I place them wherever I can find a spot on the shelf for them. Once a quarter I may get annoyed enough to go and then organize those by either alphebetical, timeline, category or studio. Sometimes its a mix of all of these as I line up marvel or Disney movies.

I used to be strictly alphabetical. Then I went with studios or labels and now I have everything by genre except for my label cabinet (they look nice sitting next to each other. Genre is my favorite so far. Easiest way for me to scan for making a selection. If I'm in the mood for comedy I look at all my comedy's same for any other genre.

Agreed! Alphabetical all the way for me. I have BDs and DVDs mixed together, but I have movies and TVs ordered separately (all movies in alpha order followed by all TV stuff in alpha order). I did that mostly because of my large Doctor Who collection, but I do like having the line of division that allows me to see all my movies at a glance and all my TV shows at a glance.

I'm into history, so my collection is organized by year of production.

In the past, I would combine blu-ray with dvd. Now, I have returned to separating the two. I have also removed a lot of my older dvd`s from their cases and store them in some of the Discgear 120 containers. However, my pattern is the same no matter how the movies are displayed or stored.

Pretty much everything is organized by date of release except where noted -

Action:
King Hu
Shaw Brothers - organized by director then by date of release
Bruce Lee
Jackie Chan
Sammy Hung
Yuen Biao
(Chan, Hung and Biao have made some movies together so those get put wherever)
1990`s Hong Kong Cinema - organized by my favorite movie first to least, etc
Japanese
Thai
Korean
US

Sci-Fi:
Japanese movies
Japanese television
Star Wars
Stanley Kubrick
Sci-Fi movies - various - organized by year of release
Sci-Fi television - various - organized by year of release/or my favorite to least

Drama

Music - organized by my favorite band to least favorite

Exactly. BUT, that's where I make that the book end and start the other series of films with the second actor.

Alphabetically in 4 groups:
1. Movies
2. TV Shows
3. Disney Animated
4. Other Animated

Animation is separated for my kids.

EDIT: Large box sets (Bond, Harry Potter, etc.) sit on top of my media shelves in no particular order.

Alphabetical still works better for me. I kinda wish I could do genre or by company, but I know that I'd get confused.

I have wanted to do genre, but my wife would get confused for sure.

I've some horrible logic, if one can call it logic

First boxsets
Then steelbooks of 3D movies
Then steelbooks
Then thick cases
Then odd cases
Then amaray with slipcover of 3D movies
Then amaray with slipcover of regular movies
Then Shout Factory releases with slipcovers
Then UK cases (they are thicker)
Then all my Salma Hayek movies
Then movies (in regular amarays) and their sequels
Then the rest in no particular order.

50 years of James Bond doesn't fit so it's on top of the shelves
The Harry Potter Wizard's collection movies don't fit much either, so they are in a certain skew position put between the blu-rays with slipcovers. You have to see it to believe it

Alphabetically in the following sections:

Movies
Movie Collections (ie Man With No Name Trilogy, Marx Brothers collection)
TV Drama
TV Comedy
TV Variety/Sketch Comedy
Documentaries
Stand-Up Comedy
Music

I mix Blu and DVD together as I tend to only have DVDs if they are not available on Blu-ray. I used to not break up TV into further genres but, as silly as it is, I couldn't take my new X-Files blu-rays being on the bottom shelf.

As fanatic and OCD as my wife would say I am, I don't really care about studios. Genre would be too difficult for movies that blend a lot of different ones. I've thought about organizing by year but I think I'll always stick with alphabetical.

Alphabetical and by genre sort of with the exception of like Evil Dead movies where Army of Darkness goes after the Evil Deads.

I just have two sections...Horror/Creepy and then everything else. As you can guess the Horror/Creepy is much larger than the everything else.

I mix the DVD's and the Blu-rays. I used to separate them but then thought about it and figured it's like it makes them lesser movies or something when some stuff still only out on DVD are some of my favorite films. It's about the movies not the format so mixed they went.

I also mix in TV with Movies....comes in handy with let's say the Tremors series and putting the TV show (on DVD only) with the Tremor movies on Blu. So, everything is one big happy family on the shelves
