Here's the end result and I think I like it better. Each genre is alphabetical within itself starting with 3D and ending with Western. I printed small labels for where each genre is on the shelf. That's more for other family members than myself.

Thanks. I built them using the Rubbermaid brand shelves from Home Depot. I cut down the last eight from from 48" to 45" to fit inside the door frame. The top two left are 36" and the top two right are 48". I then used the adjustable supports for the wall brackets on the right side. The two over the door are just drilled straight into the stud beams.

Looks pretty nice! My biggest issue is space. Even with some random titles crammed in I have 20 or more paper boxes filled with some single movies, tv series box sets, and lots of large gift sets. I'm thinking I'll have one row along the top for the ultimate sets. I have most of them. There's only a few I don't think I'll get, like the Nutty Professor or the James Dean set. And there are French releases of Body Double and Year of the Dragon, but they are quite pricy for one movie that I'm not a huge fan of. And then another row for the "kitschy" sets, like the Pirates chest, or Big Lebowski Bowling Ball (DVD). Then the rest will be as it is now, primarily by director first. Hopefully it looks as clean and uncluttered as yours!

I hear you. The only reason I have enough space on my shelves is because I have my Bond, Marvel, UHD, and DVDs separated. My wife also has her handful of movies separated as well.

That looks great! You need to put back up your Christmas lights, though, that was my favorite part in your other pics!
I like the labels and that you alphabetized your genres (not just within the genres). It's also nice that you have a little room left on the ends of some of your shelves... it will be easy to add titles as you get them. Great set up and use of space in your room... going around/above the door is a good idea.

Thanks. I might do that. I took them down because they were getting in the way.

I just stick mine on a bookshelf. I don't have any particular order, except I separate movies from TV. However, the ones I watch most often do tend to be near the front, and the least watched ones are towards the back. Since after I watch one, I just push them towards the right with my hand, so they all slide over. And I stick the dvd right in the empty space I make.

Both the wife and I are kinda neat. Plus we have a five year old and two year old, so it would actually be neater

It drives some people crazy but I tend to arrange my movies by my favorite films first. I have a shelf dedicated to Disney films and keep my marvel movies lined up with each other.

I figured - it would have been hard to keep them up while you rearranged and labeled your shelves. It's a good idea for next year, though, if your wife likes them, too!

I think that's a fun idea... I thought about having a shelf with my top 20 movies. I may do that someday!

For now, I'm organized by genre and have 2 shelves for the Best Picture Oscar winners.

I've thought about organizing either by genre or alphabetically, but I have a pretty good memory and can find whatever I'm looking for in no time. I can just remember where they are. Some people look at them and say they should be organized to make it easier on them.

That works, too! I had no organization method for years. Simple/easy that way when you get new movies. No rearranging or reorganizing.

I used to have mine pretty separated with different sections for
1) TV Shows on DVD
2) TV Shows on Blu-Ray
3) DVD Single Movies
4) Blu-Ray Single Movies
5) Criterion
6) Shout Factory
7) Disney
8) Ghibli
9) Box Sets

But just this last weekend I consolidated everything except I kept TV and Movies separate. Box sets with now connection to each other (like the Warner Brother's 3-Movie Packs) are just at the end.

Of course it is all alphabetical.
