Those 'reference quality' BDs certainly fit right in. The resolution upgrade is there if the content allows for it. But some of these 4K mastered and downscaled releases could pass for a legit 4K release (since there's a glut of upscaled ones to begin with).

Separate. My collection is arranged as follows:

4K Steelbooks
Steelbooks
4K Blu-Ray (Film)
4K Blu-Ray (TV)
3D Blu-Ray
Blu-Ray (Film)
Blu-Ray (TV)
Blu-Ray (Special Interest)

Oversized special editions come last, since they don't fit on my regular shelves.

Its only logical to separate dvd, blu, and 4k. They are different format regardless of case size.

Just having the Mad Max High Octane Collection mixed into my UHD shelves gives me a sick feeling.

Actually, 4K movies are still Blu-ray discs, so I store them alphabetically with the standard blu-rays.

Conversely:

It's only logical to mix them. They are all 5" movie discs that go into the same player regardless of format.

If we’re talking Case Logic, there’s only one solution:

They are in a separate media storage unit, but have over 100, so it is pretty full. Using the different categories capability on this site makes it very easy to find which unit holds something I'm looking to watch.

I need to reorganize my BD's. My 4K's are alphabetical but my BD's are a mess. I have Criterions, SF, Blue Underground and Arrow together which I like but the rest are by genre and many are misplaced. I keep meaning to do it but I enjoy watching my movies more than organizing them.

I have many sections for my collection.

One big wall is kind of a misc. section going alphabetically. I have blu rays and 4k discs together... this section is non- slip cover so they look uniform.

then I have a tower that has slip covered titles and again, 4k and blu ray are mixed together.

From there I also have a steel book tower--- mixed again.

Lastly I have a shelf for brand new or showcase 4k discs that is separate.

I've probably reworked this room (my office) about 20 times.
I also have shelves designated for Warner Archive, Twilight Time, Criterion, Scream Factory, Digi-Books, and a big horror section!

Originally, I had them together (when I just started buying 4K discs), I now have a separate bookshelf for them (which I'm now going to have to buy a even bigger one since the current one I bought for it is already full).

FWIW. I have four groupings, 4K, BD, DVD and Other. Each grouping is alphabetical. Finer groupings I find just aren't worth the trouble as some categories might have just a couple of entries. I'm thinking of combining 4K and BD as storage wise there's really no difference except for the colour of the cases. To be honest I see the day of the disc as just about over. The popularity of discs and their availability is dwindling fast here in Canada and I suspect that's true for the US as well. I also have noticed that finding DVD/Video storage furniture is also getting to be a challenge. How discs are stored is soon to be a moot point.

I always separate my 4K's from the regular blus. Then from there it is studios into genres.

I have my BDs and UHDs mixed and alphabized. DVDs and CDs are unorganized in separate shelves due to case size (however some BDs with DVD sized cases are mixed with the DVDs).

I have my collection organized sort of weirdly. They are organized as follows:

- I have my 4k UHD's first, then my blu-rays second, and then my dvd's. all which are filed alphabetically
- I have steelbooks (4k and Blu-ray) first, then my slipcovers next (4k and Blu-ray), and then movies without slipcovers (4k and Blu-ray)
- I have my movies alphabetized oddly. For example, Avengers: Age of Ultron is under A. However, The Avengers is under T. A time to kill would go under A and The Dark Tower would go under T.

- I have some "special interests" movie in with my regular movies as well.

I seriously need an entire room devoted to bookshelves and no furniture at this point. The struggle is real.
I was having the same issues when I had my big a** entertainment center and chest of drawers, as I had space for more movies then. Now that I don't have either the big a** entertainment center or the chest of drawers I have even less space. Thankfully, I don't have near as many movies and I am trying to curate my collection better. However, I was still struggling with space (so many 4k deals, so little space). I moved my turntable to the top of my new entertainment center and now have two rows of space for movies. I still need to curate so that it doesn't get out of hand.

I'm the same way about not watching Blu-rays. The only Blu-rays I watch that aren't "special interest" related are The X-Files. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie on Blu-ray that was not "special interest" related. I just don't see the point in watching regular movies on Blu-ray if I don't have to. I just can't get into them as much anymore knowing that I've got a 4K I could watch. I still watch DVDs from time to time. Though this is mainly due to the fact that there are several genres of film and tv that will never make it over to Blu-ray. Much less 4k.
