Now my movies are just in some cardboard boxes, but I’ve been thinking about buying binder pages for cd’s/dvd’s so I could ditch the cases and bonus Disco and put them in storage and have a few binders full of movies close to my tv. I’m just having a hard time finding such pages, they’re either very expensive or I would have to order outside of europe which would make it too expensive

I have 12 of these cases in my home office. It takes up half the wall space, but it's a dream for storing blu rays. I have the wall space above the cases lined with the Scream Factory posters that used to be offered with their discs. They're incredibly easy to build. If you have been thinking about upgrading your storage, look no further.

I have mine separated by categories, inside the categories they're organized alphabetically, except for franchises and sequels which are put after the first one, there are a couple subcategories like Mel Brooks movies or Zucker movies.
My main categories are classics and Award Winners (movies before 1970, plus movies that won best picture or director, plus a few others I deem special), other categories are Bond movies, dramas, comedies, animated movies, silent movies, Buster Keaton movies, Chaplain movies and foreign language movies. |

Originally I just alphabetized everything but it became a pain to move movies in every row just to add one title. I don't fill the rows all the way now to account for the new titles but I do eventually run out of space. So I started breaking down the categories, such as MCU steelbooks or animated or TV.
So my question is..... Deadpool 3 goes with MCU but does that mean I put Deadpool 1 and 2 elsewhere? |

disc type, then alphabetized with the exception of series. Smaller series of a given disc type are grouped together based upon the name of the first disc regardless #2/#3 alphabetical naming. Larger series like the MCU or Star Trek are all grouped together at the start of the disc type section before the alphabetical.
I have yet to start card cataloging them yet, but might to make sure everyone puts the discs back in the same location every time. |

My collection, like many, is organized alphabetically by title. I have exceptions though for certain labels (Arrow, Criterion) genres (Hammer Horror and superheroes, above) and filmmakers (Carpenter, Kubrick, Eastwood). Box sets for TV series I've never really solved - they're tucked away in closets, etc. |

Curious if anyone using the tarifold type sleeves has had any disc damage over time even if storing each disc in a paper sleeve housed between the artwork. I only got a one hundred sleeve test run and used them all for dvds. It does save a ton of space and so I'm considering buying more.
But I'm not sure how long term storage goes with these. Granted, I think the previous times I had issues with binder material was storing the discs directly onto pvc type material. Traditional cases are obviously optimal for proven protection and long term storage, but compromises need to be made. I can't see using these for boutique releases, 4k, etc, but for some dvds it is a fun new storage project. Using the paper sleeves adds slightly more space and maybe like a dime extra cost per disc; the storage might be slightly uneven versus without the paper sleeve and the thin sleeves could lead to dented cover art perhaps with all the vinyl style bin flipping and packing many together. But the savings in space once experienced is really nice. Last edited by meremortal; 04-30-2025 at 07:42 PM. |

Currently most TV shows go in a separate cabinet. Movies are sorted by general 4k's (alphabetically), then Jackie Chan sorted by release date (both 4k and regular Blu-rays), and other Blu-rays last (alphabetically).

Hey everyone, I am currently trying to narrow it down to either one of these three methods:
A-Z (many people use this method, can instantly find the film you want) By genre (every thing set out for whatever mood you are in) By year the movie was released (All films lined up earliest to latest like a huge film timeline) Struggling to decide which of these to go for ![]() Not really into organising by actor or director personally. Also struggling to decide if A-Z if I would seperate boutique like Arrow or just put EVERYTHING in A-Z Last edited by DisneyDreamer2023; 05-23-2025 at 10:58 AM. |

Also mainly have blus in boxes and it's annoying to have to unstack a bunch at a time to browse through them. Going to order more sleeves for more dvds, but the price is 2x for blus and it's frustrating to have to pay double the price. But I'd be open to using sleeves for a number of blus if they'd lower the price to the dvd sleeve prices with tarifold ones.

There are many ways to organize your collection of physical media. Some simply sort everything alphabetically. Some categorize their physical media collextion by standard genres (action, comedy, romance). Some create their own unique categories.
So how do you do it? How do you organize your collection of physical media? Please let me know. Describe your organization/sorting/classification strategies in as much detail as possible. Feel free to add pictures or video if you wish. Have a nice day. |
