First, I keep my BDs separate from my DVDs, but I sort both using the same basic algorithm.

Mostly alphabetic with numbers first. I keep series together and in order, sorted into the rest using the series name. Oh, Christmas movies are sorted last.

I've only started collecting BD's. I have about 25 in a nice wicker basket organized in two rows. I just keep the newer ones in the front. Tomorrow "Star Trek" will hold that prominent position.

Previously when I had over 500 dvds, I used to organize my movies by studios with colors! I would fade to black!!!

But with my Blu's, up until about 2 months ago, it used to be by colors with Box sets being end caps, like book ends!!!

Right now my entire collection except for Band Of Brothers is alphabeticaly with The Matrix Box set under Matrix not under Ulitimate Matrix Collection!! Numbers being first of course!! Everything else is pretty much matching this websites order!!

I was not sure at first due to Digibooks and Boxsets, but my collection looks great and my family members have no problems finding any of my movies!!! So, they love it!!! I made this decision because of numerous movie rights being sold/lost/changed!! Hellboy 1 & 2 are perfect examples!!!

I actually am very pleased by the appearance!! Photos coming soon!!!!

Seeing as my collection is in its infancy, I haven't decided on the most suitable organizational scheme. For now, it's by studio, but that applies to those releases in standard Blu-ray cases only. I keep those in slipcases, Digibooks and special edition packages in their own enclaves.

I just have mine thrown everywhere all over the room. When I'm looking for one in particular I have to swim in them like Scrooge McDuck to find it.

That's not far off from some of the methods i'm seeing here. The whole point of "organizing" is to be able to locate quickly, correct? Isn't alphabetical by title the easiest?

I have two ways of organizing my Blu-Rays

Studio and SteelBook

Under each studio, there are random groups. I Have all of the Harry Potter's Organized by Theatrical Release, Stanley Kubrick Movies organized by original Theatrical Release.

Trilogies or groupings of movies are stored together, but only if they share the same distribution studio. Disney releases are different though. Walt Disney Animation are done via release year, Disney/Pixar are organized by theatrical release.

SteelBooks share the same. Seperated by Studio, James Bonds are organized by Theatrical Release.

I put mine in alphabetical order but if it's a series I put it in order by series name (e.g. Bond movies are filed under "B" and put them in theatrical release order). And movies with numbers are put in as if they were spelled out(e.g. 10,000 B.C. is filed under "T" . Then come music blus(have none yet) followed by TV shows. And these two are also in alphabetical order.

Films - alphabetical by title, some exceptions made for titles belonging to the same series (i.e. I sort Batman Begins alphabetically, but put Dark Knight right after it instead of with the D's).

TV shows and Direct-to-DVD movies (ones related to TV shows, or ones truly made for Direct-to-DVD. Others that were created as full-fledged films and just happened to unfortunately get stuck with direct-to-DVD (ala Trick 'R Treat) go with the normal films) sorted alphabetically by TV series title.

Music - concert footage, music video collections, etc. sorted alphabetically by artist/band name.

Criterion titles sorted by spine number - These probably should be split into the above 3 categories (most would go into the films category, but Criterion releases the occasional music or TV related title), but a) I like the numbering scheme of the Criterions and b) most of the stuff is so far out of mainstream that it's more convenient to just have them by themselves so other people looking for a film to watch aren't wading through old, foreign, and obscure films that they've never heard of. It's not a perfect system, as it keeps some titles like Benjamin Button from the rest of the modern mainstream films where it arguably belongs, but I don't have a better solution at the moment.

I used to do that, but some months ago, I decided to group all genres together whether they are anime or not. I kinda like it that way, but I can't deny that the anime looked really good all grouped together.

I have unwatched separated from the rest, this way I know what I have seen and what I bought but is yet unseen.

Then I have fancy packaging they are also separate from the rest and what they are is none important they are on the top shelf (it shows them off more and they are out of reach for children).

TV shows are then separated from movies and since there are not that many thall shows are together.

This leaves most of my collection. My movies are then separated by genre or sub-genre.
my groupings -at this point in time (which can and do change)

horror
Sci-fi
none-movies (no plot, just sound and video like blue planet or nature's journey)
war
comedy
kid cartoon
kid live action
18+
comic book/games/ toy based movies (or that look like they belong that way)
Bond
International + Canadian
drama+
holiday/special occasion (right now just Christmas)
period movies (cowboy, knights...)
action/adventure.

I do Concerts/Music first....... then TV Series...... then Movies....... each section is arranged Alphabetically, starting with the numbers.

Then AFTER all the blu-rays, I have my regular DVD's ordered the same way.
