USA My Collection

I don't organize at all(..I have 1100+ DVDs and 254 Blus). I have moved alot of the DVDs that I'm sure I'll never watch again into storeage containers(..not cardboard either) to clear shelf space for my expanding blu collection(..I do catalog with movie collector pro and the opticon 2001 scanner though)...other than that...

Chaos Rules !

I am also making a binder with all the movies in it. So when friends or family come over they can look through the binder rather than take them to the room with all the movies in it!
yes you can and oh I cringe and the thought of putting my blus in a binder!

All are in alphabetical order, with some differences.

The Dark Knight is placed after Batman Begins instead of under T/D

Fast and Furious is placed after The Fast and the Furious (haven't got all sequels) instead of under F.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is before X-Men for chronology. etc.

In other words if there is a series I put the rest of the films following the first in chronological order, not release year, except for Fast and Furious, which when I get Tokyo Drift will stay as number four.

Grouped with all animation at the start, with Disney and Pixar kept separate, then everything else within alphabetical order except for series, so all the Batman films are in theatrical release date order under B. All the James Bond are in theatrical release date order under J, etc.

TV discs are currently in with the movies but will probably get split out next year as I get more TV stuff, going at the end in alphabetical order of series.

For example, I have a lot of Doctor Who DVD's which are all in chronological order. The Doctor Who blu box will go at the end of those next year.

I would advise against it......... it's nice in some regards, but when someone other than yourself wants to pick out a movie, they usually want to see the cases, so you have to keep them somewhere accessible anyways...........

Plus, after filling 2 of the 400 DVD/SACD players, and needing a 3rd one..... I quit..... because I had to separate my "Full" cases from my "Empty" cases, and people would get them mixed up etc........

My BIGGEST gripe about it though....... was I filled 2 of them, and that didn't include the "Special Features" discs..... so if something had the film on one disc, and another disc with bonus features, whenever I wanted to watch bonus material, I had to get that case out anyways.......

If you don't mind buying a new one for every 400 discs you get (it sounds like no big deal...... but it's like getting a bi-annual car-insurance bill..... ALWAYS at the wrong time ya know ) then go for it..... but again... I'd advise against it for "Collectors"

Also, here is my organization....... Crazy-Blu puts mine to shame....

More have been added since then........((EDIT)) crap! I've doubled that since that picture was taken...... time flies! and I've spray painted them with glow-in-the-dark neon green paint to help me find them easier........ it's a great system.

EDIT:

I have four sections: I do all alphabetically, keeping single case movies in one section, boxed sets in another, animation (Pixar, Dreamworks, etc) another, and finally documentaries (e.g. Wild China). The Matrix screwed up my organization, being a 'book' and taller than everything else, so I keep it with the boxed sets. Seems to work so far, having 60 some blu rays.

Everything is Alphabetical for me. So films like Batman Begins and Dark Knight dont go together (Shock!). Oh well, it helps me find things easier and they look good on the shelf like that (no I dont look at them for hours, or do i?)

It's the Sony BDP-CX7000ES (see my sig). This is the ES model, it also comes in a less expensive model (BDP-CX960) if you aren't concerned with third party control integration. BTW, great deals can be had outside of the Sony Store.

Mine starts with my Criterion titles in numbered order. Then the majority of the rest of my movies come next in alphabetical order. Following those, I have all of my Disney animated movies in alphabetical order. Then, I have movie series that don't start with the same title (Batman Begins/The Dark Knight, James Bond movies) and 1 boxed collection (Ray Harryhausen). Finally, bringing up the rear, I have all of my tv Blu-rays in alphabetical order.

But what if you never have over 400 Blu's? For me personally there are not more than 300 films (at the very most) that I would own. So if you had say 250-300 movies would it be recomended?
