I purchased a progran from http://www.collectorz.com and it works great. Keeps track of every DVD or Blu and I have about 700 combined.

I then keep them alphabetically in bookshelves in my home office

I don't organize them at all. Well, I keep the steelbooks seperate and anything with a non-traditional case seperate (i.e. The Godfather, Band of Brothers). That's it.

Same here. Purchased it about 3 years ago. Got bored with it recently though, and I tried Movie Label 2009, DVD Profiler, and others... but wound up coming back to Movie Collector. It's just fast, simple, and has great report capabilities.

I keep my movies in boxes that hold 160 disks. (Spring loaded push button drawers) They are randomly put into numbered sleeves and I enter them into a database called mediaman on my computer where they are catagorized by genre and alphabetically listed. I have 11 of these for DVDs and 1 for blu-rays. I can find any movie by typing in it's name and it gives me a location for that disc. Great system, I can find any movie in a matter of seconds.

I only have 40 or so Blus so they are just stuffed in a drawer under my tv. I know what I have and I don't have any problem picking a movie to watch.

by studio....that way all the logos match up and it looks cool....I also had a variation by having it in order by studio and by the different shades of color on the boxs...(putting all the blue cases next to the blue cases and so on,...looked like a rainbow...lol)....

Blu cases on the left, blu cases in the middle and then move into blu on the right.

This creates only mild confusion for me though as I am colour blind.

Damn dude. I do the exact same thing. I have my WB/New Line level, Fox Level, my Imports level, Paramount/Dreamworks level, Disney/Buena Vista level, Columbia/MGM/Screen Gems level, and Universal/Weinstein(only have 2 Weinstein titles so had to put them somewhere). I always wondered how many other people sorted their movies by studio and then color.

That sounds like it would be hard for me to keep track of. I prefer alphabetical order, but whatever works for you. So when you want to watch a flick you have to think of what company its made by then search for it there. To me my way just makes more sense.

Same way as I do my DVDs. Generally, alphabetical order. However, when a franchise or specific type of disc have more than 4 of the same kind, I move them into their own section.

For example:
All movies A-Z

Specific live action franchises:
Batman
James Bond
Star Trek
Star Wars

Animation:
A-Z
Disney
Pixar

TV Series:
Alias
Babylon 5
Buck Rogers
Dark Angel
Everybody Loves Raymond
Flash
Friends
Hercules
King of Queens
Lois & Clark
Seinfeld
Stargate SG-1
Stargate Atlantis
Wonder Woman
Xena
