Right now I have my collection stacked into three piles.

I will eventually organize them once I invest in a bookshelf or a proper unit to store them in.

Anyone care to suggest a good storage unit that can house a growing collection?

For the most part, alphabetical. I disregard "A" and "The" and series are also together.

Why not? I do the same thing.

I have mine organized by release date (of the movie, not the Blu-ray).

I have mine organized as everything alltogether, alphabetical. I'm going to do a different way sometime soon by 3 sections. They will be my Criterion collection, TV shows, and then movies and everything else.

I'm thinking about splitting my titles up by studio, then going alphabetically. The spines would have a little more unison if sorted by studio.

I've changed mine quite a few times recently. Now it's...

1. Movie boxsets in alphabetical order (that are bigger than regular cases)
2. Alphabetical and in studio order. Slipcovers first, then movies without them the same way
3. Steelbooks in alphabetical order
4. TV shows on BD without slipcovers/boxes then shows with them
5. TV shows on DVD

I organize mine by most nudity to least amount of nudity, it is the most logical method jk lol.

My collection is set up left to right Zero – Infinity then A – Z
no matter if it is a...
-box set
-Digibook
-steely
-slip cover
-tv show
-or the height
-color
they are all mixed together
unless it is a crazy ridiculous sized box set (those go on top).

Sequels together chronologically.
James Bond flicks are sorted as 007.
Dark Knight = Batman.

Blu-rays together in its own shelving
dvds together in its own shelving
videogames in its own shelving with PS3 games together, PS2 games together, PSP games together, 360 games together, Wii games together and DS games together.

It is quick and easy, everything else requires too much time searching and thinking (who made this flick, what company made this movie, is this an action or comedy film… blah blah blah). Even my retarded friends can figure it out and when they borrow a movie and/or game they know exactly where to put it back. If you know your 123s and ABCs your golden.

This is how organize and why. I like reading different sorting methods. Do what makes you happy

mine are just random with the exception of Blu-rays with those cardboard covers are all together and steel books stay together too.

I might try sorting them by spine color or alphabetically though.

Ditto, could not have said it better myself. Just seems most logical to me.
