I used to organize them by studio distributor (i.e. Universal, Disney, Fox, Sony, Warner Bros, etc), but now I arrange them in alphabetical order.

It is just easier for me, didn't mean for that to come off as me stating that it is easier for everyone that way.

The way you find it simpler to just go through ~50 Comedy movies, is kind of the same way I find it easiest to just look for The Hangover next to the 50 other H titles.

Live action feature films, animated feature films, live action TV series, animated TV series, music, documentary/miscellaneous. Each of those categories is then organized alphabetically.

I would love to organize my collection alphabetically, but my collection is just too big to put on one shelf. Currently I have seven of these metal shelves from Ikea that you just screw into the wall and those are all in alphabetical order. I also have a shelf that is supposed to fit like 600 or so BD's and those are all in alphabetical order. But that is when the organization stops. On top of my main shelf I have about 125 BD's...and those are in in no order at all. I also have a few stacks on the floor.

Most of the time I can find the BD I want to watch in a couple of minutes...but it took me a long while to find Monster Squad tonight and I almost gave up looking. I would love to have just one big shelf with everything in alphabetical order...TV seasons, box sets, concerts, Digibooks and even Criterions. As it stands though, I will continue to get calls from my girlfriend when I am at work asking me where such and such a movie is and complaining that I have too many Blu-rays.

Since you asked about Genre (or the rest) I did not bother mentioning it, but I am sure everyone who does Genre (or some othe rcategories) also does, like me, alphabetical in the category. So if I want Hangover, I don't need to go through my ~50 comedies but I go to thecomedy shelf and then I go to H-a-.....

But most of the time I am not looking for a particular title, it is either "I just want to relax, so let's see what I have not watched yet" and then I have a small collection of 20-30 to pick or I want a Comedy (to use your example) and I go to the comedy shelf and go through ~50 or I want Horror and go through them or sci-fi and go through them.....

It just cuts down a large collection into many smaller ones that are very focused to your mood. Now, I will agree, if someone else comes to my home and wants to see Shaun of the dead or Zombieland, they might look in Horror and not find them there because I consider them comedy while if they want Army of Darkness it will be in Horror so there are some titles that fit multiple genres and so it is up to the person to decide where thy feal it fits most. But since I choose where they better fit, I know where they are.

I normally have them on shelves, Criterions together (both DVD and Blu-ray) and Digibooks are together.... then the rest are just "random"

Unfortunately due to issues with a water leak, I had to remove all of my movies from their normal area (locked away from the kids) and I piled them up inside a spare room off of the living room......

I went into the kitchen to get their lunch out of the oven, and when I went back, my 3 and 1 year olds had bypassed my "make-shift security system" and were in the room with the movies.... and they knocked down EVERY stack that was along the wall....... 1,500 or so movies in a massive pile that my 3 year old pretended to swim in...... I have a few cracked/broken cases, but I obviously didn't check them all, and certainly didn't open any up to see how the discs were....... He's enjoying his "Time-Out" right now.......

Before my children hit the two year old mark I will have my movies inside an actual cabinet so that the doors will keep them out.

Mine will seem insane to most, if not all...
First I start with comic book related movies non-animated
Then I go with my favorite actors/actresses
Here's where it gets good...
I then will go through them until I get to the next actor and spinoff to the next
Example: Nicolas Cage to Angelina Jolie title that has both Gone in 60 seconds then Angelina to Brad Pitt- Mr and Mrs Smith
I continue with this, then break into multiple sequel movies Saw, Potter, etc.. Then I start genres. Listing them by favorites and sequels. Also trying to keep actors/actresses together. Ex: Remember Me, Twilight movies, The Messengers
I keep Disney and animated together. Pixar, Disney, then animated comic movies.
Box sets are on top shelf with tv shows.
I can tell if anyone has been in my collection because nobody can figure out how to put them back in order. Guess it's a touch of OCD. It did help when my sister-in-law stole 2 blu's. I was able to figure out exactly which 2 were missing.

what is it with kids and attacking blu-rays?! it seems like this is a problem (or could be, if there weren't locked cases) for a lot of people. just another reason to add to my big list of "Reasons to Never Have Children" (no seriously, i do have that list). are all kids programmed to attack BD's because HD DVD lost and they're actually small, dangerous terminators sent out to destroy the blus of the world?

Just how does this bear resemblance to organization?

I can go right to the movie I want in a dark room... Organized perfect for me. If you see it, it's easier to see my madness, then it just somehow makes sense.

I have a door that locks from the outside by a key that hangs ABOVE the door normally...... but unfortunately these aren't normal times, and I have to make the best of it until I can get a proper movie room put back together

I organize mine by studio, my 4 year old has learned not to mess with the blu rays. The 360 games on the other hand is a different story as he plays them. I've come into the room many a times with them all out of order.
