1) to be able to make room for the hot/cold air coming in (for example if the door is closed)
2) to bring air to the furnace.

They should not be blocked, but if the home has enough circulation there should not be any negative effects (and, from the pic, he is not really blocking it).

The bottom 2 shelves are unwatched films (!), with the one at the very bottom being unwatched re-buys, and the other unwatched and never seen.

I have room for 2 more shelves at the bottom, so total capacity will be approx. 1600 blu before I have to expand sideways.

Bigger Boxsets are stored where there is room
Do you just buy every single Blu that comes out?

No. 1 on collection stats has over 2500 so obviously I dont. I purchase everything I want, and since I love watching movies that adds up to more than a few, but less than all

In the following order:
-Numerically (makes life easy, part of the main library)
-Alphabetically (read above)
-Criterion (special treatment for when I'm in the mood for a classic...& in alphabetical order...screw the numbers. What's next, font type?)
-Concerts

i just love ignorant statements like that
besides the fact that too many is spelled with two o`s, who decides what
TOO many is? you???
personally i don't care about the numbers, i simply purchase all the
movies i like. since there are a large number being released, the collection
keeps growing.
you never see yourself having more than 100 blurays, but already own 42 now. you do realize that great movies keep being produced and the number
of new releases keeps growing. even if you only happen to enjoy old movies
there are tons and tons of movies that haven't been releases on this
relatively new format yet!
maybe you should have the imagination to look ahead a few years and realize
that 100 could be reached sooner than you might think now.
while you're at it, you might want to pick up some tolerance as well and not
tell people in a bluray forum (of all places) how many blurays are too many
that simply represents your own personal opinion and you should let others
do as they please without being narrowminded and judgemental.

It's really interesting to read how others do this. I never thought so many people would use the studio method.

For me (note: I use standard bookshelves for a lot, so I have a piece of flat wood cut to the right dimensions I slide behind the discs shelf - this keeps them all flush together at the edge of the shelf instead of pushed back in as the shelves are rather deep):

DVDS-

*Main collection (theatrical films) in one bookcase, strictly alphabetically
*I have another bookcase for "collections" grouped by theme, i.e. Joan Crawford movies, Music DVDS (concerts, video collections, etc.), horror/series box sets. These are organized chronologically in their respective categories.
*Burned shelf - I collect a lot of unreleased material, especially classic films that you cannot buy on DVD. For these, I have standard DVD cases for all the important collection ones, which have a plain white spine with the title and year (and these are organized chronologically - and look pretty dang cool, LOL)

BLU-RAYS-

Unfortunately I don't have a Blu-shelf yet, they are living on a table with bookends (now stacked two high). Since BF is kind of a bust for me with Blu's this year, I'm going to spend some money before the holidays to get a proper place for them. However, they are organized by:

*Standard theatrical films (alphabetical, except for sequels which may have a different title - example, all my Batman titles are at "B" for Batman, Jewel of the Nile is right after Romancing the Stone)
*TV Box sets (alphabetical with the exception of LOST, as they are my favorites and a different size so they go either first or last depending on how I sort)
*Other box sets (I only have a half-dozen or so now so I face them front/flush)
*Disney/Pixar (I keep these together mostly because they are the only titles I leave Slipcovers on)
*Music titles (everything from documentaries to concerts)

And, of course, the "unwatched" pile. Normally I don't have much of one, but it's got 4 TV season sets, a film box set, and a half-dozen individual titles.

Ive tried many different ways but by Genre seems to work best for us. We tend to watch similar styled films around the same time. For example, we recently watched historical/medeival films - 300, Troy, Kingdom Of Heaven, Gladiator, King Arthur, & Braveheart. Next time around it might be Superhero films like Spidey, Superman, Iron Man, etc, etc.

My shelf is arranged as such that if you are in the mood for a good horror flick, they are all in the same shelf area. If its Sci-Fi, then all those are bunched together. Of course, some films are hard to put into a specific genre and I have a "General" section for these.

This works best for us although its far from perfect. I dont believe there is a single, best way.

The cases go 0-9 then A-Z but the discs are all in the changer where I can group them various ways. I am going to run out of space on my shelves very soon, not sure what I am going to do then, lol.

You purchase everything that comes out looks like. How does someone have 2500 blu rays? I didnt even know that many exist. These people must just do it for collection purposes becase when would you even have time to watch all of them???

Seems like he hit a nerve, maybe you do have too many blu's?
He said a friendly statement, no need to criticize him, esp on spelling mistakes, on a international forum and ESP when you made two yourself.

Chill out.

I purchase quite a few yes, can't deny that. But I do discard quite a few aswell. Of my now almost 1100 blu's, I am about 200 behind schedule, and half of these are re-buys of movies I owned on dvd.
Most of the unwatched movies are dramas wich seemed more interesting when watching the trailer og seeing the cast listing. But when I get the disc in hand its like 'ah, well, not tonight.'
I watch movies almost every day, its my biggest hobby, and I can easily cram in 10-12 hrs on a saturday or sunday.
I could easily have watched all the blu's, but when I just want an audio visual experience I will watch a classic like Shooter,Stealth,I,Robot, Transformers, Ironman, Startrek etc. for the n'th time before suffering through Gran Torino or There will be blood..
Popcorn wins everyday of the week.
Just watched Expendables and Disappearance of Alice Creed, so my sub got Its daily workout

edit:

For example:

on 23 november I have purchased/will be getting:

Expendables*, Eat pray love*, Flipped*, Disappearance of Alice Creed*, Hunting Party, Fire And Ice: The Dragon Chronicles, maybe the Four Film Collection and possibly Jolene. (*are already in hand)

I will not be getting:

Pillars of the earth, Santa paws, Deadwood, Madeas Big happy family, Salon kitty, I am still here, Grotesque, Countdown to Zero + + +

Glad to see someone else does it similarly to me. I go by directors but then within the director the titles are alphabetical. I also have all my Joss Whedon stuff together as well although I never got into dollhouse.
