personally i don't care about the numbers, i simply purchase all the
movies i like. since there are a large number being released, the collection
keeps growing.
you never see yourself having more than 100 blurays, but already own 42 now. you do realize that great movies keep being produced and the number
of new releases keeps growing. even if you only happen to enjoy old movies
there are tons and tons of movies that haven't been releases on this
relatively new format yet!
maybe you should have the imagination to look ahead a few years and realize
that 100 could be reached sooner than you might think now.
good post, and I agree, the guy is at 42, the most he could have been collecting BDs is 4 years, how can he be so certain that in the next 4 years he won't have 2x as many as he has now?

Chill out.
well, i own around 300 blurays, i don't consider that much, so i definitely
wouldn't get offended
i just don`t appreciate ignorant comments (and it wasn`t a friendly one)
out of principle about what the right amount of blurays people should own is.
i mean i don't go into car collector forums either and tell people what
the right amount of cars to own is
if someone purchases 2500 blurays, let them! just because YOUR mind
doesn't understand it, there is no law here whats right and wrong
just let others do their thing! anyway, i didn`t see anything "friendly"
in his comment and many others in this thread seem to agree.

ps. i just saw that your original post to me was edited by the mods for language.
haha, maybe you should "chill out" to use your words?

Got my Sony Blu ray changer last week, loaded all the blu rays and topped it off with a couple hundred DVDs. I figure it's taken 4 years to accumulate 175 blu rays it should be awhile before I fill the changer. As I get more blu rays I'll take out the DVDs and rip them to the hard drive in the HTPC. Now I can select movies by genre, actors, year of release or Studio...

Right now all my blurays are randomly stored on my shelfs. I kinda know where movies are, but it's totally random right now.

I pretty much have everything in order by purchase date. Works well enough for me.

Same. Except I keep mine in order by spine number. That's the Criterion way!

Aesthetics-wise. The box sets are positioned so that their front covers are immediately visible, the Blu-rays with black spines are together and those with slipcases are often side-by-side.

Sounds difficult to find a movie if you have a large collection.

I don't get it. When you have enough Criterions to start calling it a library, how the hell do you find your movies? Or say have someone fetch a movie for you? That's too OCD for me, & perhaps it's unintentional for Criterion, but it's seems a bit gimmicky with the numbers on the spines.

my new method.

i have my basic blu-ray movies all alphebetized a-z includic the numbers, like 300 is filed under three hundred. then i have a shelf dedicated to my tv series. then my digibooks and ufc titles share a shelf. then my steelbooks have there own shelf.

Wow, so many variations!

Mine are intermixed (DVD, Blu, and HD), alphabetical with ascending number lead-in. Sets that do not fit on shelves are exiled to the bottom shelves, and Spiderman & The Simpsons are at the top horizontally the fill the lonely CD size shelves.

I sort mine in good old fashioned alpha/numerical.

I can remember the days when I just used to throw them up on the shelves. By the time I had found what I was looking for, I could have watched a movie

I just throw whatever I have on the shelf. I don't have too many right now, but I remember where each and every movie is placed. So it's not a problem finding the titles I want.

I organise like I do my collection here. DigiBooks are together, then Criterions followed by Boxsets on a higher top shelf. Steels after, followed by animation, Asian, Imports, UK imports and the rest, the in each, numbers first, then alpha. All that followed by my hds. It works so well for me I don't lose track and forget some.

I guess I'm anal about it

Default How you organize your collection ?

Im starting to make a collection. I have quite a few Blu-Rays, but I am going to organize them.

So, tell me your ways! How do you organize your collection ?

Do you organize them in A order or by actor, or do you have Blu-Rays, and Steelbooks separates?

fyi- threads about blu-rays should be made in the blu-ray section not the movies section.

I do mine alphabetical by title. I put all movies in a series together by the title of the first i.e. Batman Begins then The Dark Knight. I also keep collections together i.e. Roger Corman's Cult Classics.

I have so little that they just sit in a stack. When I build it up they will go A-Z but that's still a bit away.
