I have one side for my Blu-rays and one for my DVDs.
I organize my collection in Alphabetical order, but keeping the sequels with the first movie, by example: Da Vinci Code is followed by Angels & Demons. Also, I organize the series in chronological order. By example (for the DVD versions): Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is the first, followed by Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The same with the Mummy franchise: The Scorpion King 2: The Rise of a Warrior, The Scorpion King, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. My James Bond movies are in the "B" for "Bond", and they are organized in Production Date. I sort my DVD Profiler database the same way. EDIT: In fact, it's a lot like iam1bearcat. The Digibooks are also mixed with the regular Blu-rays. Last edited by Morsoth; 05-21-2011 at 05:27 PM. |

Unfortunately, my collection ends up in a state of disarray every once in a while because I bring it with me to my apartment at school, and home during the summer months. I have totes that I store them all in for travel purposes.
Right now, I've got them all set up in the spare room at home on my shelf that I got a couple years ago. I'm pretty much out of room, but I've managed to fit everything in for the time being. DVDs used to be on top, since I have far more of those, but i wanted to showcase my Blu-Rays, so when I set them up at home last week, they got the "top shelf" treatment. Blu-Rays are arranged alphabetically, numbered titles going first. Special boxed sets or larger packaging that doesn't fit with Blu Ray's get special display on top of the shelf, to "showcase" them, so to speak. This includes, for example, the Complete Lost Collection, I Am Legend Limited Edition, Watchmen Night Owl, The Dark Knight Bat Pod, etc. After that come DVDs, alphabetically, arranged in the same fashion as the Blu-Rays. I've recently separated TV from the rest, which goes after the DVDs, in alphabetical order. I also have an extensive WWE DVD collection, though I've stopped purchasing those. I've got this in my closet in a storage tote. With the exception of the last several Wrestlemania's, which I buy on Blu-Ray and store at the end of the Blu-Ray collection. I'm at just over 600 titles in all, with around 160 of those being Blu-Ray, and 80 or so being WWE Pay-Per-Views. |

I have a strange way I do my collection and it goes back to when I collected dvds.
First and foremost the majority of titles are organized by genre. Within the genre they are organized by alphabetical order. Disney movies aren't mixed in with the other movies. I have a whole shelf reserved for those movies. The Disney movies are divided between the live action films, followed by Pixar, and then classic animation and within those categories they are in alphabetical order. Movies based on comic books and graphic novels are also not included with the other movies. Those have their own shelf and are divided by DC, Marvel, and Other. Digibooks and Criterions are in their own section. Criterions are arranged in alphabetical order and not by the number on the spine. Some titles can fit in multiple categories such as How The West Was Won. It could go with my other westerns however it's a digibook. In cases like that I put the title with the digibooks because the cases are similar and it looks more uniform on the shelf. UCEs and any abnormally large box set are put together. Movies that have sequels are arranged in chronological order. For instance, Escape from New York comes before Escape from LA. Instances like that aren't in alphabetical order. TV Seasons are put together. |

I only have 22 blu rays right now, but I currently have 20 of them organized by Distributor and then put the distributor in Alphabetics order. If i plan on watching a film i put it on the coffee table or my gf puts one out she would like to watch on movie night. I know as my collection grows i'll have to find a better way.

The basis for mine (like almost everyone else) is alphabetical order, with numbers coming first.
For number, I go in numerical order. (ex. a movie starting w/ the number 7 would come before "28 Days Later", which would come before a movie starting with the number 70) For sequels, if it starts off with the same franchise name, such as the Harry Potters, I go in release order (ex. original Halloween comes before Halloween H20, which comes before Halloween remake, which comes before Halloween 2 remake). But if the sequels have a completely different name, such as House Of 1000 corpses and Devils rejects, they go alphabetically. For 2-movie collections, or boxsets, ect (which I normally avoid if possible), I go with the first listed title And I keep my remaining DVD's on a separate shelf (until I hopefully I can replace them all, but certain films such as Song Of The South, Carnosaurs, and Land Before Times I'm not holding my breathe for) This works much better for me then previously, where I basically had them grouped into genres, and arranged them from favorite to least favorite Last edited by sskclickgeneral; 05-21-2011 at 06:38 PM. |
