Whenever I purchase new movies I repeat the process. If I go more than a month without purchasing a new blu-ray, I repeat the process on the first day of the second full month after my last purchase.
you funny.

Guys,

This is all getting out of hand and confusing (well, for those who know exactly how they want their collections, I salute you and what you're doing to keep them in order) as we've been discussing the numerical titled sequencing...

I got the whole alphabetizing thing (for those who do it this way; keeping the WHOLE collection A to Z) -- with "THE" and "A/AN" being ignored and putting every film title in order. What I don't get is what to do with NUMERICALLY titled films, as those opinions seem to be all over the place on this -- should they be PHONETICALLY INTERPRETED and then alphabetized, like

THIRTY Days of Night
TWENTY Twelve
EIGHT Mile
etc...

?

Or should a collection BEGIN with numeral titles, but start, literally, with the number "1" -- regardless of "size" of the number, like:

1408
40 Year Old Virgin
8 Mile
etc...

?

Or should the numerical groupings come first, but should they come in SIZE sequencing like:

30 Days of Night
88 Minutes
1408
2012
etc...

?

To paraphrase and borrow from Yoda...

There is no "should"... there is do, and do not

There's no "rule" or sorting police that will tell you to sort things alphabetically, or where to put the numbers if you do. It really is up to you.

For me, the whole point of organizing my movies is to make them easier for ME to find... so alphabetical works. Ideally, I would like to sort my numbered movies as words (the grammatical method) BUT then it would cause me problems when I use online databases as I would have to re-train my brain to whatever they did differently from me.

So... I largely do what I want.. what works best for me... and only tweak a little to make it easier when I interact with other people's databases.

^^^

I understand that perspective; I realize there's no real "official, official, official"***" way of doing this -- I suppose I was asking for more guidance in terms of what most people do with their collections, and if certain ways seem more "asinine" or "nonsensical" than others; as I said, I started off by phonetically interpreting their titles (numerical films) but recently changed the collections around to reflect the "1 before A" system, and now I'm wondering if that's "more correct" than phonetically interpreting them...

On my shelf, I have Blu-Ray's first, then I have TV on Blu-Ray/DVD mixed together, then I have the rest of my DVD movies (which I've traded a majority in at this point).

And everything is numerical-alphabetical (in their respective sections).

Mostly, my Blu-Rays are kept on my TV stand, with my favourites at the front, and Criterions being grouped together and organised by spine number. I have a few mixed in with my DVDs, such as one that belong to a series, i.e. James Bond, or a particular studio (I've decided to organise all my Disney releases, animated and live action, in Chronological order as I receive them, thus my Blu-Rays are mixed with DVDs). I was mixing more Blu-Rays with DVDs when I was organising my classic film collection (1930-1980) in chronological order, but I decided I would try to keep as many Blu-Rays together as possible.

My collection is mostly alphabetical with a few exceptions. James Bond Movies are all together in order of release. Disney/Pixar animation, box sets, and TV shows are all in their own sections alphabetically. I have my DVDs mixed in with my Blu-rays, which looks a little strange, but it makes it easier to find a movie I want to watch since they're alphabetical.

Horrors of Horrors for collectors, I do not have much room at all in my home, but I do own a lot of blu-rays, so I put them in a loose leaf case with sheets that holds both the disc and the sleeves and toss the plastic blu-ray case. It takes up very little room that way.

Should it be, with numerical titles, the LITERAL CORRECT SEQUENCING of numbers? For example:

1408
2012
28 Dresses
30 Days of Night
8 Mile

Or is it more correct that we go by ASCENDING SEQUENCE, no matter how large and "out of place" the bigger titles appear? In other words:

30 Days of Night
40 Year Old Virgin
1408
2012

???
Personally, I do literal.

I go mostly by genre, partly by how they look on the shelf. Slips go together, as well as animated films and those with odd cases, such as digibooks and box sets.
