Same here. A good way to justify this way of organizing numbered titles is because it is the exact same way you organize other movies by alphabet for whatever letter comes FIRST. Think of numbers 0-9 as you do the alphabet. 1 comes before 2, just as A comes before B.

I group them by different categories.
KINO
Blue UnderGround
Roger Corman Classics
Criterion
Movies with Slipcovers
Horror
Comedy
Westerns
War
Thrillers
Drama

I wouldn't be able to stand alphabetical order. My OCD would kick in.

Mine is mainly by genre. I've got my super-hero collection (separated by Marvel and DC categories), Westerns, Action (Terminator, Independence Day and such), Disney animated (kind of it's own), Comedy, and so on. Within those Disney is in order of the first release at theaters (Snow White) to current (Tangled). The super-hero collection is by character (all Batman movies together all Superman and so on). Others are similar; Mummy movies, Pirates, and Terminators are together. Nothing special.

I like to see uniformity across the shelves. Therefore, I have the Region A's together, followed by the Region B's (slightly bigger blu ray case than the Region A's). slipcases together, steel books together, box sets together etc

That seemed "simple" to you? I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Blu-ray "stacker" -- do you mean a Blu-ray MEGACHANGER? Like the one Sony offers? If so, that makes more sense -- I thought he was saying he keeps all his Blu-rays inside his SINGLE DISC BD player, thus I was confused; of course, there was also the possibility that he was being a bit funny with the comment and meant he plays his Blu-rays in his Blu-ray player, etc...

Here's something else to throw into the discussion...

On my shelves... I stand up the movies I have watched. The movies I haven't watched yet, I put them on their side... so they are obviously different on the shelf.

It helps me to easily pick out a movie I haven't watched yet when I'm bored.

Clearly I know whether or not I've seen a movie before... but when I've watched the movie in the theater or on cable or satellite... I needed an easy way to spot a Blu-ray (or DVD) that I had not watched my disc.

I started doing this back when I first got a bad disc in a purchased movie... and it taught me that I needed to know if I'd tested a movie yet... so until I play a movie all the way through, I don't stand it up on the shelf the normal way.

I have a single glass cabinet for all my PS3 Games/TV DVDs and TV BDs (Planet Earth/Life/Human Planet/Band of Brothers/Top Gear etc) and a seperate matching but double glass Cabinet for all my BD Movies. Currently the top shelf is for all Disney Pixar/Animation/kids stuff and arranged alphabetically. The next 3 shelves are English movies arranged alphabetically. The Bottom shelf is for Bollywood movies...again Alphatbetically. Thats this week...sometimes when I'm bored I'll re-arrange everything by Genre...sometimes by my favourite movies.....and sometimes by type of packaging (Steelbook/Digibook/Slips/Amaray)...lol...even I think I'm weird!

Then what would you do if Tom Hanks was in a Scorsese film? Buy two copies? (Some anal-compulsive people on this site probably would.)

Alphabetical order, Its easier for me so i dont have to be looking for hours for a single movie, i just go to the letter and find it. I put the box sets on top of my shelf since they dont fit.

What do you do with "numerically titled" discs, i.e. "8 Mile" or "2012"?

Everything alphabetically, sequels together with two exceptions:

Animated/childrens films are located on a lower shelf for easy assess for my daughter.

Horror films are located after the rest of the movies alphabetically. I don know why but I want them separate.

I put mine up haphazardly with mixed genres and no particular order. I like to scratch the cases with sand paper and I always touch the discs after eating chicken with my hands. I clean the discs by rubbing the bottoms together. I put all of my DVDs up front and blu-rays in the backs. Does anyone have suggestions for how I can improve my system?

You can try what I used to do before I came up with my Excel system:

When you put your cases away, put them with the spine facing away from you. Also make sure you keep the movies in random order like you do now. This way, whenever you want to watch a movie, you won't know what you're grabbing! It's a surprise every time!

Yeah, I didn't see that at first so I didn't know what you were talkin' 'bout -- I see you have the Sony megachanger; I understand now...

Well, sure, that makes everything much easier! Inside the changer, though, how is everything alphabetized? How is the PQ on that thing?

Alphabetical in the groups of Criterion, box-sets and the rest. I just started collecting last month so that's just the rough plan for now.
