Organizing by studio and blu's with slipcovers separate from non slipcovers makes little sense to me.

Why is that? Organized by studio makes perfect sense and the spines match that way.

I see...

So, you ignore the fact that, say, "2012" is really "Two Thousand Twelve" and should go towards the END of a numerical classification system because it's "so large" a number? Instead, just taking the first numeral -- in this case "2" -- and going in order like that (2 would come before 3,4,8 etc.)?

I understand, but I'm talking more about how it classifies on a physical media shelf.

Alphabetically, Blu-Rays and DVDs are separate, as are TV shows and movies.

It's actually "two thousand and twelve"

Divided into Movie and Series.

Each are alphabetical, with numerals integrated into the letters (not by their lonesome before the letter A), and disregarding "The" but preserving "Le"/"Les" and "A".

By studio. BDs and DVDs are kept separate (except Criterions). Computer animated BDs are also kept separate.

I divide into packaging:
  • SteelBook
  • Slipcovers, boxsets, DigiBooks etc
  • Standard releases

Then within those categories by:
  • Studio; then
  • Country; then
  • Alpha

Well, the remainder of my DVD collection is now in a binder, organized by genre. I think it's something like 65 titles (down from the 400 I had).

As for the Blu Rays, they're organized by studios, with WB being the most significant of the collection. Within each studio collection, I start off with steelbooks, followed by regular blu ray cases and finish with a digibook, if I have one from that particular studio.

The box sets are organized at the bottom of my shelf (Harry Potter Ultimates, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, The Matrix Collection, Back to the Future, Superman Anthology, and Pirates Ultimate Trilogy Collection Best Buy Exclusive) with my DVD series box sets of The Sopranos and Sex and the City.

I only have 31 Blu-rays at the moment, so storing them isn't a problem for now, but I can see that eventually I will run out of space in my small media cabinet.

Currently, my entire Blu-ray collection consists of animated films, and I organize them first by studio (Disney, Pixar, Don Bluth, etc.) and then chronilogically by release. If my collection ever grows really large, I may switch to organizing them alphabetically or other ways (3D seperate from 2D, etc.).

By genres; horror, science fiction, adventure, action, classic sci-fi, classic mystery, biblical, war, etc.
I have dividers that stand vertically and project about a 3/4 inch past the edge of the shelves, and made labels for them with a P-Touch label maker.

I have 8 shelves broken into three categories.

There are 3 shelves for Blu-ray on top with 3/4 of a shelf left to expand, 2 1/2 shelves (and shrinking) with DVD in the middle, and 2 full shelves of TV DVD on the bottom.

They're arranged numerically, then alphabetically for now. An increasing amount of slip covers, digibooks, special editions, and (in the future) more Criterion cases may change my setup though. I'm starting to not like how those look mixed in with the bare amaray cases.

This almost seems like a Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a redneck" joke.

I arrange mine by genre, but I'm running out of shelf room, so I have a few in a stack. It really bugs me.

Default How do you organize movies that start with a number?

For people who organize movies in alphabetical order, how do you order movies whose titles start with a number?

For example, how would you order these movies in your collection?

3:10 to Yuma
8 Mile
8 1/2
12 Monkeys
2010: The Year We Make Contact
2012
10,000 B.C.
The One
Sixteen Candles
The Sixth Sense

I would put these before A.

I would put these in normal order.
