The real question is, what if you throw 300 in that lot. Does it go before 3:10 to Yuma or after? Then throw in "3", the Dale Earnhardt movie. Yep, I've wondered at length which way I should order these three movies.

300 would come after 12 Monkeys and before 2010.

I would put 3 before 3:10 to Yuma.

3, then 300, then 3:10, it goes by first letter/number then 2nd.

Numerically speaking I would go 3, then 3:10 to Yuma, 300 after 12 monkeys, 0-9, lowest to highest numeral

My problem has always been that sometimes I can't remember if a title was spelled out or listed numerically. So like I go to watch 12 Monkeys and have to think, "Is that under 12 or Twelve?"

I don't have many so I can basically do it anyway I want to:

1. Big sets (One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Taxi Driver)
2. Digibooks (Se7en) - alphabetized
3. Slipcovers - alphabetized
4. Regular cases - alphabetized

My few Criterions are after that with some space in between the above. They look horrendous because they are all different sizes but - oh well.

I organize as follows:

Alphabetical with movies that are numbers (20 Million Miles to Earth) under "T" for twenty million...

I also do not alphabetize movies that start with "the" under "T". I use whatever the real name of the movie is (i.e The Mummy is under "M" in my collection, etc).

My bottom shelf is my digibooks (18 alphabetized) then my box sets (Star Trek TOS, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Back to the Future, Alien, etc). Then I have my Planet of the Apes, Ten Commandments, Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica Boxsets and Watchmen Night Owl all on Display on my TV stand.

You say "whatever the real name is" but that would be The Mummy, not Mummy, 'the' is very much part of the title....and T for twenty (20) is alittle odd imo

Each to their own though

It's part of the title, but it's still "just" a prefix, just like "A", "An", etc., so for alphabetical sorting it makes sense to ignore it.

I've seen stores do the same. Makes it kind of a guesswork to find certain movies here if they can't decide whether to use English or German pronunciations for numbers

At one point, I did have my collection arranged in alphabetical order, but as I kept buying more movies, everything ended up getting mixed up.

All my titles that start with a number go at the start of my shelf, before the A's. In numerical order. (12 Dogs of Christmas, 101 Dalmations, etc...) However, The TEN Commandments has always been SPELLED out as T E N. THAT goes in the T's. Along with others, like NINE Months, SIXTEEN Candles, etc...)

I put everything I buy from a US or UK source (Amazon, Deepdiscount, Best-buy, Amazon.co.uk ) together in one spot. I put everything I buy from other countries elsewhere.

I only have US/UK Blu-rays, so it's a pretty simple system

I do a combo of genre + alphabetical, for instance the Pixar, tv series, asian & anime films have their own section. But for anything else (sci-fi, comedy, action) they mesh together

Very similar here.
Concert/Music , Asian, Animation - All in their own section, alphabetically.
The rest together alphabetically.
