How do you organize your collection?

Films and television seasons are integrated together. The only set separate from everything else is 'Lost', but that's only because it doesn't fit on the shelf.

So your "T" section must be HUGE! Lord of the Rings or The Lord of the Rings...I would associate Lord of the Rings with "L" not "T" or we would be calling it TLOTR trilogy!

I organize my movies by Director.

I usually tend to arrange by studio, starting the most, i.e. Warner, Lionsgate, Paramount, etc.. Now I'm arranging them alphabetically by studio, i.e. 20th Century Fox, Anchor Bay, Columbia, Disney.... I'm such a geek.

I could never do that as I would never be able to remember what studio every movie in my collection is from. Seems a lot easier to search "A" if you are looking for African Queen.

9 out of 10 times I could tell you what studio a movie is produced by.

I used to organize mine by the director's dog's/cat's name, but that got to be too much work.

One part is sectioned for wifes favorites. One for Disney/Animated. The rest are all over the place yet I know where they are

I just use the boring 'ol alphabetical system. I would like to organize them by genre, but I don't really have enough to do that yet.

I have a 5 layer stand. on the first row i have my Steelbooks in alpha order. then on the second layer i have my box sets and digibooks. then on the rest i have all blus!!!!! all in alpha order!!!!

A friend once gave me the good advice to organize as you need to find your stuff, and don't sweat going beyond that point. So if I owned "3:10 to Yuma" and "300", but my movies that start with numbers is only, say, 10, I wouldn't go crazy about figuring which one comes before the other. I can find either title quickly when I need it.

Although I order alphabetically, I do like keep certain related titles together.

For example, if I were to own all four Rambo movies, I would keep them together under "R". I would not put "First Blood" (the first Rambo movie) under "F" and the other three under "R".

If they do Krzysztof Kieślowski's trilogy, Red, Blue and White, on Blu-ray, I have no idea how I'll alphabetize them! Maybe all together under "T" for "Three Colors Trilogy".

Box sets, then individual titles by genre (action, western, drama, etc.), then Pixar titles in chronological order (Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, etc.), then Criterion Collection titles.

When my friends come over they sometimes find it a little harder to find the title they're looking for, but I can find what I want easily and my collection is small enough that it doesn't take them long to browse the whole collection.
