Recently my shelves got full so I pulled out all my Asian/martial arts films and alphabetized them on a different display. Now the shelves are full again and I don't know what to do. LOL

The same keeps happening to me and I'm out of room again!

Usually alphabetically and by format. EX: DVD, Game, Blu-ray. But lately I have just been stacking them where I find room. It's not something I want to do, but I have no more room on my shelves. I just bought a new one last Christmas and it's already full. I have no more room for another shelf like that.

I do that also know. I used to have BDs and DVDs separated but I watched less dvds like that - now that they are all together im more likely to watch a dvd!

Alphabetical for me with the singles separate from the Trilogies
Symmetrical Blu-Ray stacking! Just like the Philadelphia mass turbulence of 1947.

I've tried both and here are my findings. When you have a larger collection it's easier to go by studio IMO. If I had a small collection I'd probably use ABC order.

For Large Collections:

1.) Most titles will look better on the shelf arranged by studio since you have more of them that match.
2.) When you have dozens of BDs coming in every week moving things around so they can be in alphabetical order can be a PITA when you have to bump things to the next shelf. When you do it by studio you can just add another shelf when needed and throw them on.

I agree they are not really ornaments. Although at least in my situation and size of my collection drawers are not practical, the use of shelving is better for us.

But we keep our shelving units in our master bedroom, not displayed where everyone that walks into our house can see.

Criterions first by spine number, then movies alphabetically, followed by tv series alphabetically. I've toyed with the idea of chronologically and such but It just seems more convenient for them to be alphabetical.

Alphabetically. I have no idea why or how anyone would do it differently unless you have less than 100 BDs.

That kinda a problem when you have 1500+ and have to move almost all of them over one spot, and some to a new shelf, to put a single new title in order.

Amarays on theme, Steelbooks on colour. Boxsets share a shelf (divided in two rows) so I just put the best looking boxes (and most watched) in front.

Something different from the ABC approach at least

Leave yourself space, and do a little at a time.

That is a huge amount to manage, though.

There are some very interesting perspectives on this topic. I can't imagine having my collection organized in most of these ways myself.

However, the "organize alphabetically by studio" idea certainly sounds good for aesthetic reasons. If I ever find the time, I might try that out.

guess im just crazy then. Heres my set up: first- special packaging (sets, digi books, and steel books). then slip covers. then non slip covers. heres where it gets complicated. with in slips and non slips, i first separate by color of spine. with in the spine color, i then group by studio. it was hard to split up stuff like iron man one and two, but separating by color is way more aesthetically pleasing.

Well I like uniformity. All odd-ball sized blu-rays first. Digibooks together alphabetically, then boxsets alphabetically. Followed by all standard cased Blu's in alphabetical order except ............

If it's a series of films like the Evil Dead Trilogy or the Night of The Living Dead series. I group those together. So for example Night of the Living Dead movies would go under "N" regardless if it's Dawn of the Dead or Day of the Dead.
