My blu-ray collection is organized in a MS Access database; I give each movie an ID number (numbered sequentially) and place it on the spine of the case, then enter all the info for that title into Access (multiple titles in one case share the same ID number, but have a separate record for each title), that way I can find the title I want to see using the database’s search tools. Perhaps this isn’t the most visually pleasing method, but it sure makes it easy to add new titles, keep track of what’s in my collection, and find any movie I have or just browse thru my collection. I also organized all my DVDs this way.

Why try DVD Profiler (I use it), it is a more elegant why to catalog your Discs!

I organized my DVD and BD separately, matched by genre, within each genre there is no particular order, the genres that I use are: comedy, drama, action, science fiction, adventure, horror, musicals, concerts and cartoons, as I bought BD's adding to the collection in order of arrival.

I have two old shelves that used to just have DVD's. As time has gone by, I have almost filled up shelve one with nothing but BD's. I think that once I hit 200 BD's I will do a major overhaul in my collection display. I always enjoy browsing other forum member's home theater displays to get some ideas.

I am actually down to my last few DVDs, as in single digits down from over 350 originally. I have sold just about all of them, but
[Show spoiler] not before saving copies of the ones that are not on BD first.

When I said "Perhaps this isn’t the most visually pleasing method” I was talking about how the collection looked on the shelves not the database, should have worded that better.

The following attached image shows how the database looks.

Right now I go in alphabetical order. I eventually plan to break it into Disney, Criterion, and then everything else

Categories then by alphabetical.

Oh and I keep them inside my large ottoman standing on their edge with category dividers. Old dvd's stay on the old shelf. My BR.com collection is organized in the same style.

Gah. Alphabetical in each category - By title in BD's & DVD's, by artist in CD's. That's the fastest way I can find stuff.

Don't even get me started on the whole Spider-Man "reboot" of a franchise that was young to begin with, or the upcoming Zack Snyder reboot of the Superman series via "Man of Steel"...

Nowadays, we get ONE film -- and it's remade and rebooted...
Yes, it's getting quite ridiculous. There aren't a lot of good storytellers in Hollywood right now, the system having moved away from good storytelling to one of following demographics and proven systems of profit. So what the bean counters do is continue to mine successful novels and do remakes of remakes of remakes, because they are too afraid to take chances on new screenplays that do not follow formulas that in the past have equaled profit.

There are exceptions of course, but the current idea that Hollywood is bankrupt of fresh ideas has quite a bit of merit. I'd add that the corporate side of Hollywood lacks any balls whatsoever and kneels at the alter of the dollar far too much.

On topic:
I organize by genre, then by whatever fits my fancy. For example: In my horror films, movies with a Halloween theme are grouped together, any that are campy are grouped together, and so on...

First DVD's alphabetically, then I do all my TV-on-DVD. Then, I do Blu-ray alphabetically... movies and TV series and all... although with my growing collection I'm probably going to have to do it the same way I do my TV-on-DVD now. DVD's are probably going into a closet though since I got rid of so many of them and I'm moving soon.

Alphabetical order in each section didn't like having them mixed in with each other the different sizes was way too annoying pretty happy now looks more uniformed

I organize mine alphabetically, except that series (Harry Potter, etc.) are chronological. My BD collection isn't that big yet, but I have over 1000 DVD's and alphabetical just makes things easier to find for me.

My Movies via MCE. I have about 12 TB of storage with 2 200 disc DVD changers and a 400 disc Blu Ray changer. VERY good way to organize/watch. All under one roof and ready to go.

I used to do it A-Z, and I think that's my preferred method.

Right now I have it set up:

DVD A-Z
DVD TV Shows
DVD Foreign movies
DVD Music videos/concerts
DVD Anime
UMD (don't judge!)
BLU+HDDVD A-Z
BLU+HDDVD TV
BLU+HDDVD Disney + CGI movies
Blu+HDDVD Anime
BLU+HDDVD Horror

Alphabetical for me. Thick, thin, Tin, Digibook, Dvd and blu mixed in together.
Only seperation is Foreign and English.

Sometimes it was taking me 5 minutes to find a movie.

I use the mobile App from this site on a iPad 3. The collection is in the same order as the App. So things are super easy to find now.
