Ok I'll admit my dvd collection in my bedroom is messed up. They are organized by studios, alphabetically. First goes Disney TV Shows, then Disney animated movies in canon order (with sequels added in) then Walt and El Grupo is at the end since it has Saludos Amigos and a documentary, then it goes Disney documentaries, with Three Muskateers blended in between Frank and Ollie and Shorts complimations DVDs, then my Treasures collections ended with the Pixar shorts. Then the Pixar movies in canon order with Disney Parks DVDs. I find transition DVDs interesting

Alphabetical is the only way to go in my opinion. Any other way is just too OCD. It makes sense to be able to find a movie knowing what the movie starts with. Sorting by case type is not for me.

Criterions seperate by spine# (I have no idea why I do that because it goes against every OCD bone in my body). Then alphabetical. I am thinking of seperating my digibooks so my shelves look a little cleaner but that is it.

Mostly alphabetical. Criterions have their own section and are in spine number order. And most box sets are in their own section as well.

I use Alphabetical for most of my blu rays except for my animations/kid movies and my region b movies. I also have box sets by themselves alpha as well.

Right now I have a shelf for my Criterion blu rays. Those are by spine number. Than I have a divider for that same shelf where my blu ray collections go (Star Wars, Alien, Back to the Future, etc). The next shelf is digis, steels, slips, eco cases just all in alphabetical order. I used to be more critical with organizing these but right now I just want them all next to one another. Than on top of the book case is blu box sets (Ben Hur, I Am Legend, etc).

Any blus without slips go in alphabetical order. Digibooks, Steelbooks, and movies with slips have their own dedicated section. Box sets off to the side in their own section. DVDs sit disorganized on their own bookcase waiting to be upgraded to blu ray

I have a cabinet with 6 shelves, Drama on top, action on the next two shelves, 4th shelf has animation, 5th has box sets, documentary, horror, and comedy, and the last shelf has 3D movies. All movies on the shelves in no particular order. I tried putting them in order before and the kids would just put them anywhere, use to drive me up the walls. At least now I can get them to put them back on the correct shelf.

I think that is because you have very few (at least by the count on here). and at 28 you can skim through them all in a couple of minutes to find a film, but when you have hundreds, it becomes easier to go by genre. You still have the ease of alpha-numeric when you want a particular title. But if most times you are just in the mood for ______ (horror comedy....), then you can go to that section and so you only need to go through a lot less films to find the one you will decide to watch.

You would be absolutely right except that many films are an even split between two or three genres. I'll give you several examples:

Resident Evil: Horror? Zombie? Action?
The Natural: Drama? Sports? Baseball?
Predator: Sci-fi? Action? Adventure? Horror?

You see where I am going with this? It's much more logical and efficient to just go with straight alphabetical.

My collection isn't very organized, though franchises are next to each other. I've got a semi-photographic memory, so i can always find what i'm looking for in a matter of seconds.

My organization scheme really doesn't make much sense. Most things are sorted alphabetically (separate sections for blu rays and DVDs), but my "classic" movies (anything I define to be a classic) are sorted by year of release and I have separate sections for Criterions (by spine number), Disney movies (alphabetically), Twilight Time (alphabetically), MoC (spine number), Studio Ghibli (release date), and tv shows (alphabetically).

really easy, by association whether it be franchise, actor, director, or other

True Romance next to Reservoir Dogs next to Inglourious Basterds

X-men 1-3 and Wolverine followed by Real Steel and The Prestige

American Gangster, 3:10 to Yuma, L.A. Confidential, and Gladiator

Casablanca next to Gone with the Wind

Con Air next to Face/Off and The Rock

12 Monkeys>Moneyball>Interview w/ the Vampire>MI4 Ghost Protocol>Hurt Locker>The Town

feels like I'm playing 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon
