By type first, then alphabetically.
Types, in order: Steelbooks Criterions 3D Movies Disney Collection Slipcovered Releases Non-slipcovered Releases Digibooks Television Series ... And I use the free shelf space to showcase my box sets. Works well for me so far! ![]() |

My collection is way too big to go anal on alphabaptizing letter by letter. If you click on my collection, that's exactly how it's organized.
Over 1100 titles are by first letter only which is still very easy to find a movie. But I do separate out my Digi's, Criterions, 3D, foreign, animations, boxed sets, etc. letter by letter off title. That's easy. I do it that way because it's still very simple to find a movie when it's set like this. I've also had some blus gone missing so when I go to periodically check, I just go through everything off my listed collection from this site to verify nothing else has gone missing. Yeah it sucks something like this happens, but it has a few times. Plus I buy a lot of movies (really?) and I just don't want to spend all that time sliding movie after movie over or down to fit the new one in. And with a family, they jack everything up putting them back anyway, especially the 10 year old. Can't expect that out of a child unless your a slave driver, plus it's not a big deal anyway. ![]() |

different media are separate
mine are by categories. The categories are mostly genres and sub genres and I split them up in to smaller sub genres when they get too big and don't fit on a shelf any more (for example I have Horror, but I also have Zombie type , animal horror, slasher and torture porn on other shelves. But there are some categories that are not genres (or subgenres) such international (none Anglophone films), fancy packaging (things like digibooks that can easily be damaged by kids), TV series and unseen (everything I buy- even if it is a classic I have seen many times before - goes there until I watch it and then it is properly categorized) PS in each category except for fancy packaging and unseen they are in alphabetical order with series put together. If you look in my albums you can see on my big shelf that all of the cases/box sets are stacked on top of each other (I did this to save room mainly) but I just recently changed it so they are standing up next to each other (although it takes a bit more space) is either way better for storage or is it just preference or does anyone know what I am talking about?

DVD's and Blu ray's separated and alphabetized, and multi-movie sets go on a separate shelf. Unless it's like Psycho 2, 3 and 4, that just goes under P. But a ten movie horror pack would go on the multi-movie shelf.
And then there are the big piles of stuff in the bedroom ![]() |
