Hi Guys, new to the forum.
Just created my account, and was adding the movies of my young collection on my profile. Main reason, as a catalog for myself, and since there is nothing else interesting to write on my account. While i was Catagorizing the movies into Genres, as you know, alot of movies cover a multitude of genres. Action/Comedy, Horror/Sci-Fi, Fantasy/Romance. For certain movies, i was thinking... hm.... its clearly this AND that genre. Then i got to thinking... but what do I enjoy this movie for? Like... i know there is an action aspect to this film, but i always enjoyed it for its dramatic story. DRAMA it is. I just thought that was interesting, has anyone thought the same thing? |

Standard releases, tv shows, criterions, digibooks, bulky box sets/triple features etc etc are seperated, and then arranged alphabetically. Still have the steelbooks with the standard releases though, maybe because I only have like 5 or 6 and I can't justify giving them their own shelf...I don't know.

I start off by height, so I begin with my two digibooks (I don't go for digibooks/steelbooks, but The Right Stuff and the Star Wars saga were only released in those formats). I then go as follows:
1. Music 2. Musical Theatre 3. Stand-up comedy 4. Documentaries 5. Sports 6. TV 7. Criterion (by spine number) 8. Disney 9. Dark Knight trilogy 10. Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit series 11. Marvel Cinematic Universe 12. X-Men I then have my general collection arranged alphabetically. |

Blu-ray Grand Duke

-Movies by director, alphabetical by last name (from Ben Affleck to Zucker Abrahams & Zucker)
-Movies in a series, oldest series to newest series (from Godzilla 1954 to Sherlock Holmes 2009) -Animation, arranged by studio (and, barring that, from oldest to newest) -Original & Remake (if I have both versions of the movie. If only one movie in a particular series gets remade, I'll include the remake in the movie series section instead, a la Dawn Of The Dead '04 after the George Romero films) -TV on Blu, oldest series to newest. -Everything that doesn't fit into these categories simply goes in a "miscellaneous" section, oldest movie to newest. -Everything that literally doesn't fit into my tight shelves (oversized novelty packaging, digibooks, ect.) goes on an entirely different shelf. |

Everything alphabetized. Digibooks/Digipacks/Mediabooks in with the standard movie releases. Concerts next, then TV shows. Steelbooks and Hardboxes each seperately along with the few DVDs I own. Bigger box sets like the Sound of Music are in the closet for now, have very limited space as it is.

Movies (regardless of packaging styles) are organized by title, A-Z. Series are kept together (i.e. all Bond movies go under "B," all Rambos under "R," etc.) Sequels are kept in release order, whether they are numbered or have different titles. After movies come television programming, again A-Z, then anything miscellaneous (concerts, documentaries, etc.; A-Z.)
Repeat same organization for my DVDs. |

I separate slips from non-slips, both alphabetical. I have all the Bond films in one section, then steelbooks, then Criterions (all two of them

Blu-ray Samurai

I tried to organize by Director and it was one big ClusterF&@# I may attempt it again at some point, but prepare better. Box-sets, Double features, TV cause a big mess, not to mention anthologies...
![]() After I got that mess cleaned up, I moved my entire collection into an unused room, the shelves pretty much take up all the wall space. I miss having the collection in my living room, but it is pretty nice as it all is contained in a single space. |

I organize mine based on studio quantity. I have around 50 Disney blus so they come first. I have one lionsgate so they come last. Within the Disney blus I put animated classics (WDAS) followed by sequels, then live action films, direct to video, and lastly, the nature films. Then I have Warner Bros which go alphabetical as does everything else from there on out.

I change it seemingly every other week, the constants being my Disney shelf (but even that changes between having the Classics first then Pixar then live action/etc. and having it all mixed chronologically) and my Criterion shelf (pretty much always by spine, sometimes chronologically).
The other two shelves have been variously plain chronological, chronologically by studio (the order of the studios based on who has the oldest film that I own), chronologically by director (same order as studio) with the one-offs plain chronological on the second shelf. Currently I have one shelf with all of the new release movies (i.e. 2006–present) and the other with catalog titles by BD release date. Admittedly it's a little strange but I'm the only one who has to deal with it. ![]() |

I find having my Criterions in chronological order the most satisfying, I don't see the point in doing it by spine number because that would require buying every single title whether I like the film or not which is just daft.
