I wonder if Lionsgate got the Republic catalog back since they put Highlander II on a recent DVD set.

Paramount/Rebublic's rights to Highlander II expired (meaning Olive's went with it) and reverted to Davis-Panzer. I believe Lionsgate simply licensed II from D-P to include in that DVD set, though they chose to do very odd things like create a new disc sporting a LD master of theatrical version (instead of reusing their SE DVD with the Renegade cut preferred by Davis-Panzer).

Makes me wonder if that deal was a fluke for DVD rights, or if they also got Blu-ray rights included again and may possibly reissue their previous disc or press a new one with a different cut.

That was an Image title part of the deal with Sony, which is now expired. I imagine ether Mill Creek will put it soon or Shout! may have it and are planning a Selects reissue that's more than barebones like the Image release.

I hope so, but it's such an obscure film (unfairly). I think it suffered from coming out a year after Back to the Future and having a very similar plot. Also, Nicolas Cage's bizarre vocal choice is hugely distracting. Turner, however, is brilliant, she was robbed of an Oscar nomination. And it features one of John Barry's most achingly gorgeous scores.

Both of those strengths are highlighted in this amazing sequence where she first returns to her childhood house, scored with the cue "Peggy Sue's Homecoming."

The scene also includes the great Barbara Harris, who passed away just yesterday.

I had always assumed that she was the same Barbara Harris who did voices and did the ADR voice casting for hundreds of movies. She's great, too!

Is there a full list of movies that are planning to go OOP soon so I can pick them up beforehand?

The first page looks like it has current OOP movies, but not potential/upcoming OOP's. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm at work right now so I don't really have time to look through this thread for answers.

It's difficult to tell when a title is going to go OOP. Often times prices will shoot up and it will just be OOS in many places.

Michael's Movie Mayhem used to be a really reliable source, but it doesn't appear to be updated very much anymore.

I think the only companies that let you when something is about to go OOP are Criterion and Shout, I can't recall any "get em now" announcements from any other companies.

I used to think seeing them show up in Big Lots was a good indicator, but that has been hit or miss at best the last few years.

If posts in this thread had to strictly concern titles that were definitely already out of print, it would have little practical value. That's why I don't mind speculative posts here, as it acts as a sort of "last call" and serves a useful purpose. Otherwise it's like being told "if you had invested in McDonald's in 1962, you would be rich now"--interesting, but of no real use.
