I'd bet that a number of those titles (Speed, Die Hards, X-Mens, Butch Cassidy, Avatar, Sound of Music) above will stay in print or be re-released in one manner or another on disc by Disney...but my gut feeling is that at least half of them might not ever hit disc again once existing FOX stocks run out... Never announce your titles, man... it only makes everyone else go hunting! ![]() |

The Sound of Music will likely stick around, and maybe Patton. Doctor Dolittle? Probably not. The new Dolittle film bombed (and it was from a different studio); so there's no promotional value. It'll probably live on through Disney+, being "family friendly", but no further physical releases. The Great Escape is an MGM film. Fox was just a distributor for the disc, so Disney doesn't own that. And anyway, The Criterion Collection has just released a new and vastly improved edition. The others in your list...I wouldn't hold my breath. Those are my guesses, anyways. |

I personally have 27 on my to-get Fox list, but 8 of them I haven't even seen yet, so I'd need to get to that first before buying them. ![]() |

SCREEN ARCHIVES ACQUIRES TWILIGHT TIME BACK CATALOG May 14, 2020 -- Screen Archives Entertainment has reached an agreement with Twilight Time Movies to purchase the company’s extensive Twilight Time Movies inventory or back catalog, along with reprint rights of limited titles, and its website effective July 1, 2020. The agreement ensures that the Twilight Time label will continue indefinitely, according to the principals. Screen Archives has served as the primary distribution partner to Twilight Time since its beginning, working with the late Nick Redman and co-founder Brian Jamieson. Jamieson, a veteran studio executive and filmmaker will continue to provide marketing expertise and support to Screen Archives during the transition. Screen Archives president Craig Spaulding said, “Having worked with Brian and Nick over the years, we took this step because we have always enjoyed a good relationship with Brian (and Nick). We wanted to keep our relationship going and continue to capitalize on Brian’s years of expertise in the industry. Screen Archives began in 1976 and has grown into a worldwide distributor of soundtracks, DVDs, and Blu-rays. No further details will be made available until after July 1, 2020. Edit: Just got an e-mail that says Updated Text. No idea what's different. I still got a few titles I wanted at a KILLER price, so I will not complain. The opposite. The more interesting home video labels we have the better.

Yes, in the Twilight Time thread.
Quote:
Twilight Time contracts with a given studio to release a given title. They come to an agreement for the cost of a license for the right to press 3000 copies. If those sell out, that's it. If, as they did with a small number of titles, TT wants to do an "Encore Edition" (essentially just pressing another 3000 copies), they have to go back to the studio, and renegotiate. So, if SAE wants to press more copies of existing titles, or go back to press for OOP titles, they will have to renegotiate with the studios. Or have Brian Jamieson do it for them. The likelihood of that happening isn't high. For the titles TT licensed from Fox -- now with Disney -- it's low. As someone in the TT thread said, this is likely just SAE's less-clear version of the same announcement that TT has already made, and doesn't change what we already know. |

With that said, I have a feeling they're ultimately going to reprint some of these movies, but removed that from the press release because people might feel sore that they bought a ton of supposedly OOP titles from the recent sale. Just a guess though. |

I think the closest to the "truth" about this was neo_reloaded a few posts back.
Quote:
Plus, on a side note, I don't think there's any chance Disney would renew any previous contracts and let SAE reprint anything without asking tons of money (even more than what Fox asked for in the first place, as a matter of fact). Anyway, even if I'm misleading on that part, it makes more sense that, what they call "reprint", would only concern the titles for which TT didn't already print the full 3000 copies run yet from the existing signed contracts. |
