It's almost as annoying as when conservatives have tried to get violent video games and music banned and taken off the shelves. This crap has always worked both ways.

The Color Purple is a story that honestly confronts the African-American experience and doesn't try to sugarcoat American history, so the idea that THAT would be "banned" is laughable. That's a work that is championed by Black Lives Matter supporters and has been shown recently (before COVID) in repertory cinemas as an important film to see.
Driving Miss Daisy is at least in that "sugarcoating" category, but I doubt anyone cares to "ban it." Gone With The Wind was already restored to HBO Max and is a much more egregious version of anything you can say about Driving Miss Daisy vis a vie "sugarocating," and both are WB films. And presumably, any such banning action would have to come from the creators or owners, as everything that has disappeared from streaming (episodes of 30 Rock, Community, etc.) was the result of the owners/creators deciding to do that of their own accord. No one asked them to, and it's really a stupid response that isn't remotely in accordance with anything BLM actually wants. I think people are just casting about trying to do SOMETHING, and a lot of that "something" that they stumble upon is really unnecessary. Hopefully that aspect of this moment will pass, with retainment of the actually impactful changes. Last edited by neo_reloaded; 06-30-2020 at 03:35 AM. |

I’d be happy to never hear the term snowflake ever again. It appears to apply equally to the people using it as to the people who it is used against. Why’s everybody always have to get so worked up about everything all the time?

Well apparently PBS is losing rights to it altogether, but I'm not sure what that means for the physical media out now, since that was released through PBS. I had the complete series at one time but my ex took it with her, might have to buy it again since I don't stream anything. |

Makes sense. I also saw a commercial for NBC's new streaming service yesterday and Downton Abbey is featured on there, so maybe Universal will have US rights now? They could re-issue the BD/DVD sets I suppose, maybe bundled with the film. |

Ah, so it's streaming on Amazon and the Comcast/NBC/Universal service? Strange. I've never seen it and never followed where it landed, have to admit.

I still read Downton as 'Downtown' every single time and have for years.

It is. Has been for a few years now. Jackson keeps saying a new version is in the works, but nothing concrete whatsoever.
