Sony’s home video rights probably expired.

Blu-Ray never took the place of DVD as a mass-market format, the way DVD was fully embraced in the early 2000s to replace VHS, and UHD never took off at all, except as a high-end cineaste niche format like laserdisc back in the 90s
Not even sure I would call it high end. 4K disc prices are like early 2000s DVD prices. $20-30 a title. Difference is that people are now used to bargain bin DVD prices and anything above that is high end. VHS prices were $15-20 in the late 90s. Laserdiscs around $40.

Computer screens shouldn’t be much an issue as computer screens are used fairly close, and probably most are at a better viewing angle than they are when they watch TV.

Yep, exactly. Paying $15-$20 for a disc is now considered high end by consumers, bizarrely. In addition, good UHD players cost about $300, in my experience.

Well you can't expect consumers to not be influenced by the market itself right?

From bargain bin to BF sales, people have pegged a value to the format for years. Should we expect them to be happy to pay a price that they haven't for years?

Only Disney have "saved" themselves from most of that pricing. I think they don't allow for their product to go below a certain price? Or it definitely seems like it. They were the ones who also had the infamous Vault which kept value high for a long time. If they ever re-issue Fox titles, I'd expect the new floor to be in effect too, though it would take consumers longer to expect that, if the market even lasts that long.

The haunted house/Halloween attraction documentary The American Scream has been OOP for nearly a decade.

Days Of Heaven from Criterion is OOP now.

Days of Heaven was a part of the 6 Paramount titles that Criterion lost rights to, and subsequently rereleased by Paramount themselves. It was reported in this thread a few months ago:

La Dolce Vita (rereleased in a box set)
Days of Heaven
Rosemary's Baby
Don't Look Now
Nashville (Paramount Presents)
Harold and Maude (no rerelease announcement as of yet)

I'm a millennial born in the 80s and it wasn't long into the 2000s before I noticed more people I knew were abandoning physical media. It was probably much more prevalent with cds since many people grew up with iPods and downloads. And now streaming services and YT make impulsive accessibility ridiculously easy for the average person. It was a while before I started to notice the same with movies. Places like Best Buy were still packed pretty much every day with dvd shoppers even when blu ray was on the market. But in the 2010s things started to drastically shift. It was also around the first time I started to notice some people ditching their computers and using cell phones as their primary form of internet, which really surprised me. But now mobile use is pretty much a given with high tech phones and I can see why people could get by with a nice oled screen even if it's really small. We're kind of at the point where even mentioning dvd or blu ray to non-enthusiasts will generate the same kind of "lol dvd" or "lol blu ray" response as cds get when you mention them now. I've even had workers at stores that sell music/movies ask me if I've heard of streaming, etc. as a regular customer who bought a bunch of stuff at these places. And even the vinyl bubble seems to be fading with teens and young adults; used to see them in droves a few years ago and now it's mostly back to middle aged and older adults digging through the bins.
I was shocked when someone said "What? Discs? Nah, you gotta get streaming, it's digital so it's modern quality picture and image!". So many are clueless and just hear all the hype from studios referring to streaming and downloads as being digital that they think discs are both analog and have worse image and audio quality.

I still haven't received mine from Ebay yet but I will watch it as soon as I get it. Retromedia is known for horrible quality though....

People are also getting lazier. The current state of apathy has never been worse for humanity. Amazing how smart phones have done the opposite of what they are.

Apathy phones? I think that is more appropriate

That's okay, I'd still like your opinion also. I know practically nothing about Retromedia and what to expect from them. Maybe they'll improve like Mill Creek has.

Both are from prints that have been around the block a few times. No egregious lines that never go away, but lots of specs and jumps.

Teenagers was 1.85:1 per IMDb, but the framing looks fine to me. This one seems to present the positive of the print rather well. Pretty watchable. Considerably better than the DVDs.

Leeches not so much. IMDb says it was 1.37:1, but it doesn't look over matted. The print may be in better shape, but the transfer is not nearly as nice, and I don't think presents the print that well. It's not a pretty movie, but this presentation is soft and ragged. Whether there's better out there I don't know.
Thanks Crispy Noodle. I appreciate the analysis. I want to have realistic expectations.

Rick

I had to raid my dad's movie closet yesterday for a copy of Romancing The Stone. He said I could have it. I know the release isn't great, but not taking chances that they fix it or reissue it.
