20th Century Studios is a dreadful name anyway.
My understanding is that they kept the 20th Century Fox logo at the beginning of the actual film on the Speed BD and only changed the tiny logos on the packaging itself. That doesn't bother me. They can put the McDonald's logo on the packaging for all I care, as long as the film itself is unmolested.

Honestly sometimes I freak out about “okay is the Sony or Columbia TriStar logo on the spine”. Same for Metrodome and In2Film. I wish it didn’t bother me but it does. Same issue now that WB has refreshed their logo and applying it to some reprints. Or the various cover templates Film4 has used through the years. Or when they do themed slipcovers like around award winning films. It’s so much to think about!

I feel your pain, I'm anal about certain things like that too, so I can understand.

I'm with you, Celestial. It's personal idiosyncrasy to me, in this matter. Call it whatever you want. There's just something that really stinks about 20th Century Fox being swallowed up by Disney, and I'm not interested in anything reproduced/redistributed in any way post-the Disney buyout. So that's another reason I targeted any FOX titles I wanted in the past couple of years, and have taken care of anything/everything I wanted already.

I really feel Amazon tends to be the first sign that something is vanishing, with some exceptions.

The logic of my method can certainly be argued, but I find it usually holds up.
Makes some sense to use Amazon as a kind of early warning system, but them selling out of BDs first and being a reliable indicator of what's OOP are two very different things. No offense, but your OOP list is semi-useless to me if you didn't check at least two other major retailers like Best Buy and Deep Discount.

This gets into the whole OOP vs OOS argument. The fact that some retailers still stock something means it's not OOS there. With foxconnect.com gone, it's difficult to know which, if any, of those titles are OOP, however.

I agree, it's an imperfect method, but it's the best I can come up with. Others have said they find it useful too, but nobody is required to agree with me, and I always welcome polite discussion and even argument.

The best is to go by Best Buy and a second retailer, Deep Discount, Walmart or Target. If you do that in addition to Amazon (or instead), your list will be very useful to me too. Going by two retailers is always better than one. A majority of the Fox Studio Classics titles are OOP also. Okay, I'm done.

Makes sense. But, just to be clear, I wasn't trying to put together a definitive master list, I'd have started a new thread for that. I was just writing a single post that I knew would get buried on another page within a few hours. I did my best to make the list accurate, within limited parameters.

I agree, a list of Fox titles totally gone from multiple retailers, and using every Fox title out there, not just the ones in my own collection, would be ideal, and worthy of its own new thread, I would think.

When it comes to Disney owned titles you can’t rely on Amazon to be an early warning system. Those two have been at it for years such that even new popular preorders might ship out late from Amazon because Disney “delays” their shipments to mess with them, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney allows their older products to dry up at Amazon too. For a short while I’m pretty sure you couldn’t even preorder Disney (including Marvel) titles on Amazon until release day because of their fights over pricing.

Sorry about that, it’s more of a response to James Luckard and why in this case Amazon isn’t the best option for determine OOP status. For most studios I agree Amazon is a decent barometer.

My personal barometer is Bullmoose though. They stock niche titles and if they list something as “rare, we’ll try and get it for you” then I know I need to do a deep dive into other retailers before those wells dry up. Bullmoose used to be my last line of defense, got plenty of OOP titles from them, but now they’re too popular online and sellout just as fast as the majors. Even my backups, Orbit and Zia, sellout quickly now once word gets around on something.

That's a totally valid point, the Disney/Amazon sandbox fight has been going on for a while, and at this point, could, conceivably, be extending to Fox titles.

I wish we still had foxconnect.com, or even just access to some internal retailer ordering system that would show what is genuinely still stocked.

I wish I could contact the person I dealt with at Fox Home Video to get The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 BD fixed, but they're all gone.

I would assume Disney Home Video now handles the Fox titles still shipping to retailers. I don't know anyone there, unfortunately.

Many Disney titles can't be preordered at Amazon even now. Roger Rabbit 4K can't be preordered, and Unbreakable 4K was only available for preorder for about a week, about two months out.

I haven't used them enough to know, so what is the deal when Bullmoose says that, do they tend to actually get the title for people most of the time? virtually never?

Wow, so that’s still going on haha. I rarely preorder studio titles so I wasn’t sure if it was still happening. Glad I much prefer to wait until the price gets knocked down so I can concentrate on boutique labels first.

I’ve tried ordering a few titles this way (Blu-ray’s and LPs) and haven’t had much success in getting them fulfilled. The order just sits there and I typically give up after a month and cancel it myself. I doubt they do anything extra than ask the distributor for more copies.

I have ordered from Bull Moose extensively over the past 2 years. I would honestly estimate the rate of shipment at around 50% for items marked "rare item. we will try to get it for you". Sometimes they ship after a week or two, sometimes you get that dreaded cancellation notice.
