BDs That Are Out of Print (OOP)

Criterion:

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! and Like Someone in Love appear to be available in DVD only on Criterion's site for some reason.

These 3 are no longer on KL's WSL page, thus OOP. There may be more but these are the only ones I recognized.

EDIT: I see that someone in the Criterion Flash Sale thread listed Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! as part of their haul. It's possible that it's only sold out on CC's site because of the sale. Perhaps true for Like Someone in Love too.

Not that you can trust Amazon as sometimes it says "only so and so left (more on the way)" and then it ends up OOP and sometimes they say "only so and so left" and then it ends up coming back in after a month or two but they are claiming the latter for Ladybugs so there is a chance, but no certainty, that it is OOP.

Yes, you are almost certainly correct.

Whenever a Criterion title goes OOP, they explicitly say so on the listing. I'm sure they only sold out of their stock on-hand.

Sometimes it can take them a long time to get more stock available, like Heart of Darkness, which took what seemed like a full year to come back in stock.

One of my top 100 all-time favorites. Hard to believe it went OOP. Glad I got the BD! I would not be surprised if another label picks it up like Kino Lorber, Shout, Arrow or long shot but possible Criterion.

I can imagine the email people will receive: “You seem to have had many illnesses lately. We have reviewed your account and have decided to close it. Do not contact customer service because they will not be able to help you. We may or may not respond to further emails. Dial 911 instead.”

Except that usually when there is a title sold out it usually says it is out of stock. The choice of Blu-ray for both are completely gone and DVD is the only option. You could be right, they could be coming re-issuing both soon. I think they were both BD and DVD combos.

Just picked a "like new" copy from eBay for 20 bucks. Not many copies left of this one.

Yep, they've been OOP for a while, it's been pulled from streaming too.

I assume Miramax's license ran out, it was probably 20 years and ran out in 2021.

Miramax's theatrical and home video rights expired (though they still have digital rights). Beyond Entertainment owns the main copyright to this one and it has a new 4k remaster. Easily see someone churning out a new release in the near future.

You think so? I feel like this release has been perpetually looked over. The current Blu ray disc has the same transfer as the ones from 15yr ago despite it being released several times

All Miramax BDs are like that. The same masters have been used by everyone who has re-released them, again and again.

I think Scream is the only Miramax film to get a new master, with the recent 4K disc from Paramount.

All the other Miramax titles are still using the same old DVD-era HD masters, no matter which BD edition you get.
