BDs That Are Out of Print (OOP)

Went to my local video store to buy Boys in the Band and it was not on stock and then learned it's now out of print.

I didn't realize Cherry 2000 and Miracle Mile went out of print. Aren't they expected to be reissued in 4K sometime?

They’ve been gone for awhile. Steve (De Jarnatt, the director) is needed to grade and/or approve the remasters which is a work-in progress.

I know him personally and he’s thrilled for these to look better than he ever thought they could. No doubt that both films’ reps will grow yet again (and rightfully so).

I don't think the vast majority of them will ever be reissued, but there's no way to tell which ones will be.

True, but KL doesn't release overall sales numbers, and I'm not sure I'd have guessed which titles they'd upgrade.

For example, The Challenge is only in 480 collections here, yet it's getting a reissue/upgrade.

I could put together a list of OOP KLSC titles they will never upgrade, but it would only be a small fraction of the large number of OOP titles and few here who don't have them already would want them; therefore it wouldn't be helpful. Most of the titles in the While Supplies Last section that were quickly marked down to $5 or $6 in the early years of the section won't be upgraded.

EDIT: I hadn't heard of The Challenge, but John Sayles was one of the writers and Frankenheimer directed it -- I may have to add it to my collection!

The x-factor is that Kino has a number of titles which were sort of forced on them -- they'll do big negotiations to get 10 or 20 titles, but some of them are "you have to take this one" deals, or "you have to take at least one title from this short list". So some of those, when the license expires, when they go back to get new licenses, the distributor could always re-insist on them, despite low sales.

Some titles like Barton Fink and The Bounty looked to be going OOP months ago cause they were in the While Supplies Section of Kino's site. But they've been on sale ever since July again...
