The movie Thief is listed under Criterion on the first post, but is not OOP. It's listed and available on Criterion's site as well as retailer sites (such as Barnes and Noble). The rest of the list of OOP Criterion are indeed OOP

There are two versions that exist. A single disc and a dual format release. Goofnut didn't specify which one was out of print. The dual format is gone. -nods-

Well, is the BD/DVD version important, when the newer BD only version exists? (for purposes of this list, pertaining to BD existence, not DVD). In that case:
Hidden Fortress BD/DVD is OOP and has been replaced by a new BD only version. I know this because Amazon cancelled my order for that BD/DVD version and sent the BD only version. I bet there are going to be many Criterion releases like that. It's not that the BD is out of print, just the version with the extra DVD (again, for me not important, but necessary knowledge for others? Maybe a separate entry of Criterion BD/DVD combo OOP, since there will likely be many now/soon, and still available as a BD) |

I would say NO, Hidden Fortress should not be listed as OOP. There are probably hundreds - maybe thousands - of titles that have been reconfigured and had combo packs that are no longer combo packs, or in some cases the reverse happened where a single disc edition was reissued as a combo pack. I don't see why the Criterion's would be treated any differently - those titles are NOT oop, they just dropped the DVD from the package. Packaging options going OOP don't make the blu-ray OOP. Though I can understand wanting to keep track of a rare steelbook or something along that line, I don't think this thread nearly covers all the different versions - it occasionally lists a digibook as "OOP" but there are many (perhaps hundreds) of different steelbooks/digibooks/etc that are not listed - and to list them all would yield some insanely unwieldy list. To me that is a different thing, and belongs in the "collectibles" forum rather than a list of OOP blu-rays. IMO a title being OOP means it is no longer available on disc in that region, that's it. If a title has been superseded by a superior version, I don't really consider the previous release as OOP - rather it has just been replaced. The only exception where the "replacement" is notably inferior, or the OOP edition has some real value over the one that replaced it (i.e. Criterion's Third Man being the ultimate example). But something like the old version of Terminator, I don't consider that OOP when the 4K remaster exists and is widely available. I know there were a bunch of Sony titles that went to Mill Creek, and some of those lost the lossless audio or had inferior video. So in those cases, I would say the Sony disc is correctly labeled OOP as it was replaced by an inferior (clearly less desirable) edition from another label. |

I have to give a big thank you to Goofnut and everyone who contributes to this thread. I just recently stumbled across this thread googling why the heck the Twilight Zone Movie bluray was so expensive. I kept procrastinating buying it over the years because it was hovering around $13. I'm so cheap that I usually wait for cheaper prices, especially for a catalog title. I hate to admit that I paid damn near $30 for it recently. I don't want to let that happen again.
Thanks to this thread I managed to find a True Romance/Natural Born Killers combo pack for $15, and just today I found Apocalypto for $2 at a pawn shop. Apocalypto is a blind buy, but I've heard great things. I wish I would have caught the Ace Ventura blurays and a few others listed in the OP before they became impossible to find. At least I learned my lesson to bookmark this thread and check it often. Thanks again. |

Thanks for the sources everyone! This site is invaluable, especially with titles going out of print now only a little over a year after being released.

Are any of the other Diamond-Luxe seeming to be going OOP? I've been holding off for a cheaper Gremlins, would hate to hold out for a more expensive one. I never see it in stores locally, but that is par for my area. Online prices seem to be holding just below $20, I was hoping for just above $10 since I've bought this flick a few times already (VHS, both dvds).

I bought the Gremlins one when it was first released at Best Buy. If I recall correctly, it was $16.00. That is the lowest it has ever been. You would be better off getting it for just under $20 that you see it for now, rather than waiting. $8 or so dollars you are hoping to save is not worth it considering when these things go OOP, the prices get jacked.
