Perhaps a new Sony / Mill Creek deal is in the works?

Amazon is only selling Mirrormask through third party resellers. DVDEmpire says it's not available. BestBuy, Target and DeepDiscount don't list it any more.

Anyway, I didn't search the thread first. This was reported last year and is already in the OP.

Not true. Amazon is selling it on their website for $13.35. Third party sellers are a little cheaper, but it certainly does not look OOP to me.

I see it now for $11.44 from Magic SuperCenter with alternate deals from 3 other re-sellers.

I saw another thread earlier today where two posters were seeing different prices for the some other title. Is Amazon messing with us?

At any rate, I ordered MirrorMask the other day and received it yesterday.

The fact that this isn't listed anywhere else online still has me believing it's long out of print. It's just not a very good or very popular film so Amazon has likely been sitting on a big stack of them somewhere.

It's really not. I've emailed Drafthouse Films, and they said its absolutely in print. You can buy it right now for $10 from the Drafthouse site, and it is periodically restocked on Amazon (just not "sold by Amazon.com", Drafthouse now sells some things directly as a third-party Amazon seller).

This happened a few years ago, and it was the same deal - just out of stock on Amazon, but not out of print.

I am not trying to be difficult, but perhaps if the film is that bad, maybe it is simply a poor seller and the other companies choose not to take up space by keeping inventory.

Online inventory doesn't take up much space. The film is old and lot's of other Sony films from that time have gone out of print. Most retailers utilize a handful of distributors and have warehouses of which they pull their stock from. Films aren't removed from the websites until the film is no longer in the warehouse and/or can no longer be re-stocked. In this case, Amazon being the large retailer that they are, and Sony being a major studio, I'm guessing Amazon just ordered a huge amount of these from Sony and never sold through them yet. Meanwhile Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc moved their stock and have since removed the listing since they can no longer order any more. It's rare that we are given notice when something is "officially" out of print, however there are typically signs to watch for and this title has hit most of them.

It's not impossible that it's still in print... but I'm confident enough to say that I'd bet a substantial amount of money that it is in fact no longer being produced based on the signs available.
