For starters, I posted that article for people here to read and update them on the situation. This is a message board and that one story had more information in it than Sony has released in a week.

We can what if all day long. I understand that they were attacked, but what people need to understand that if Sony had ANY suspicion that our credit card info was compromised, they had the responsibility to tell it's customers right then. Not 3-4 days later. Given my experience in regards to fraud and identity theft, the first 12 hours are the most crucial. Don't take my word for it. Do your own homework.

Exploding batteries, music CDs that come bundled with rootkits, personal information stolen off game servers. What next? Not one of those things did Sony come forward and admit to. Only when someone else blew the whistle, did they respond.

For a moment, can anyone imagine the flack that Microsoft would have gotten if the roles were reversed? They're still rightfully catching flack from the RROD/REOD.

Thomas Jefferson once said "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism."

This is not about fanboyism. This is about the fact that we haven't been able to play for nearly a month now and it looks like the "few days" excuse keeps getting brought up. Nevermind the fact that Sony waited several days before alerting us that our credit card information may have been compromised. This was totally irresponsible no matter how you mix, stir or shake it.

This is about those of us that want to play. Nothing more. My loyalty is with a company that provides a service that meets my needs. I'm not loyal to any company because time and time again, companies have screwed the consumer and will continue to do so as long as the customers let them.

Somehow, I highly doubt that I'm a minority in this department.
Some of us have had Sony video game products since the original playstation in 1994...that is 17 years of experience with one company...I would say it is a bit more than blind loyalty towards a product if someone doesn't jump ship at the first real major problem with a playstation system in that time frame...you obviously care more about the right now and that is fine, but for some of us we just kinda look back and say well its been a good ride for 17 years, lets let them do what they gotta do to fix the problem and see what we get out of it...and there is nothing really wrong with that either....

Exactly. I agree with both sides. I don't blame anybody who plays online a lot to want to play right now. For me, I don't play a ton online but when I do I highly prefer the PSN experience over Live, it is simply a far better gameplay experience using the PSN. I'm sure it will be back and I'll get to enjoy the great experience again soon. Sure I could play the Wii online or get a 360 but I'm fine waiting for the best to be back. Like I said, I fully understand others play online a ton and don't want to wait, no problem with that.

Not to mention that Sony _had a crime committed against them_.

If you view it as hacking is unavoidable, and Sony had a crime committed against them that no one in the world has successfully avoided if people try hard enough...what's to blame?

The conjecture that they knew about CC info being compromised immediately is based on assumptions, nothing more. There is no reason to believe they knew 3-4 days ahead of time other than guesswork by people who are trying to be sensationalist and/or hate Sony already.

The rootkit incident wasn't even the same division of Sony, and only ignorant or naive think that a company that big is "one company". It's a great slogan, but not reality. And in fact I can't remember the last time I bought a Sony CD or anything else coming from their music division.

Blind Loyalty is another term like "Fanboy". Meaningless, because it's applied by un-thinking people with blind rage to people who it does not remotely apply to.

I'm not really seeing the big deal out of this. The PSN will be down for x amount of days and we will be compensated for x amount of days. Its a very good thing that the PS3 is much more than a multi-player gaming system. It has so many things to offer such as a lot of very good single player games, media center, internet browser (not very good, but at least it has it), Netflix, etc that you can utilize without the PSN.

So I may be having 'blind faith' in Sony for this, but honestly its really not a big deal especially since they've acknowledge they've made a mistake and doing everything they can to fix it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it can also play Blu-rays.

I only see things getting worse myself. I have this sneaky feeling that within 3 months of it coming up, something similar will happen again.

I think the other comment was just trying to relay that the *new* article didn't seem to provide any *new* information. It's the same information that has been posted several times now and at one point, even the thread title had changed to say something along the lines of service will be restored at the end of the month (with a ?). Edit: I think it was changed to something else because there's some debate about what that means (or rather what it pertains to, full service, partial service, etc.).

Thank you! That's all I was trying to state! None of us want to see an article that has the same information in regards to PSN. WE KNOW!

I respect your stance. Hopefully you respect mine. We're all diverse people here with diverse views.

And I'll give you some perspective here: I'm currently out of a job. Which is why I can't make the simple decision to get another console just because I can't go online. And I've been with the Playstation brand since the very first gray Playstation, so there's loyalty for the brand already. So its not about fanboyism at all on my part, its about making do with what you've got, and not letting one incident scrub away 10+ years of faith in the brand.

I work but I still can't justify 3 consoles at this point. If I had unlimited time and money, sure I'd buy a 360 again for the rare exclusive I want. It isn't easy for a lot of people to just go ahead and drop a big change of money on a console.

My decision to buy the PS3 was because of what it had to offer me for what I wanted at the time: a Blu-ray player as well as games to play (online or off). I'm not by any means a hardcore gamer, so getting a PS3 over a 360 was a no-brainer for me. I still don't consider it a wasted investment, versus the $250 I wasted getting a Wii back when that machine launched.

I've with the PlayStation since 1994. I had the launch PS1, the launch PS2 & the launch PS3 60gb aka "My Precious". I've since purchased a Slim 250gb which has become my workhorse for all my gaming & streaming needs leaving My Precious to be preserved. Never once did I consider purchasing a 360 solely for the fact that I would have to spend more $$$ in getting the system, another controller & any games that I wanted. I'm not anti-Microsoft or anti-360. It's just a personal choice. I hope that anybody that does choose to purchase a 360 because of the PSN debacle would keep their PS3 as well. Then they would have they best of both worlds!

does it really matter? what is the exact number of a few days? If it is up in 3 days how about 4 or 5 or 6? what if in 3 days they say it will be up in a day or two or three? all of those are a few more days IMO. Now if in a few days they say it will be up in a year or a few months or a few weeks then that might not be considered a few more days and so the distinction (up or next update) is important but I think the obvious thing is that it won't be up today or tomorrow.

This whole situation is crap, but as a few people have said it's a console built for a lot more than just Online gaming, so I'm not too fussed at the moment. I can still watch all the videos/blu rays, listening to all the music etc. that I use my Ps3 for. Besides, they've done me well the first 11 years or so I've been with them so I can't complain... though it would a little nice to go back to Kz3 online, but replaying DMC 4 is pretty awesome.

I get frustrated from time to time over this given I am a huge gamer especially online gaming. However, I'd rather wait for them to get it right than bring it back online now only to have another hack because they rushed it. I've never been a huge Sony fan but it's a good system. This is the one huge negative thing in Sony PS3's history whereas the Xbox from launch until this day have the red rings of death. At least the PS3's still work, lol.

You want to feel sorry for someone feel sorry for people who recently bought a PSP Go. They can't do _anything_ with it.

I'm starting to wonder if my PSN friends will remember me, much less ever let me play in their presence again.

Maybe I need to make some new friends in the real world

Nonsense, 3 weeks should be enough time for them to figure out how to get their music and movies on it.

Screw what Sony owes us. I want the Hackers caught, put in jail for decades, fined and all their assets liquidated and distributed to us. On this scale of theft, to me, they are in the same league as Bernard Madoff who is serving his 150 year sentence.
