I do wounder if the hackers will ever be caught. I really do hope they catch them however. These people deserve some serious jail time for sure.

Sony PlayStation Network Down: PSN Online Blog Wasn't Hacked

May 11, 2011 09:45 PM EDT
© 2011 by Matt Clark

While the Sony PlayStation Network down time continues for video game fans, it was speculated that the PSN PlayStation blog website was taken offline by hackers. Now a new report is claiming that Sony took the site down as well.

According to a Reuters report, the Sony corporation took down one of their official PlayStation sites down in Japan. The website was taken down as Sony installed a new security measure. Bloomberg had initially reported the site was down due to cyber hackers.

Sony's spokesman Dan Race said of the earlier reports:

"Media reports claiming that the US PlayStation.com site and blog were partially disrupted because of hackers are false. We installed a new security measure that has temporarily made the sites inaccessible to select regions outside of the US."

The particular website is what Sony uses as a way to disseminate information to the public about important updates, including updates over when the PSN service will be back online. This site is completely separate from the Sony PlayStation Network, which is still offline as of this report.

Apparently, individuals in Japan are unable to access the US version of the PlayStation site, but can access all of their others as usual. The Sony PlayStation Network on the other hand is still offline for users in Japan, US, and many other countries around the world.

It's amazing how quickly hackers are blamed for every website problem now in the wake of the Sony PlayStation Network down crisis. Luckily, Bloomberg corrected their earlier misleading story. Now Sony just needs to get their own story straight about the PSN back online restoration date since they continue to stay silent about an actual date.

Yeah, cause us being without online gaming and getting some emails and passwords stolen is completely on par with people being bilked out of their entire life savings, and potentially losing their homes.

Perspective, people, perspective.

Probably was a Global DNS update. Those take up to 72 hours to update around the globe, so Japan will just have to wait

I do love that the post on the PS.Blog that is titled 'PSN Restoration Timeline Update', is that they don't have a timeline.

Had 6 tornado reported in my county on that very day, one of them is EF5, number may go up.
EF5 missed my home by about 20 mintues (it hit Tanner 20 to 30 mintues west of us, and hit Harvest about 15 to 25 mintues north of us), second one, EF1 missed my home by 5 mintues (minor damages in north Madison city near 72 highway). Saw two twisters (425pm[EF5], and 530pm[EF1]), EF5 one was in distance, difficult to tell at first because of cloud and distance until see shape and wide, didnt take picture because too far and I was in awe(shocked), it was huge one. Second one I saw about hour later, took alot pictures of it, then 15 mintues later we lost power and it last 4 days. It was joyful when light came back on Sunday night, May 1st, at 1042pm, yet PSN was still down.

I am thankful that I, my friends, and family are ok. Some of my friend lost home, lost love one(only 1 friend of mine, he lost his sister in law and sister in law's two kids). I graduated Alabama school f/t deaf in Talladega in 2001, where most students from all over Alabama go there, so my friends are widespread across state of Alabama.
Life will go on, but I will never forget that day.

Most important thing is that we will have psn back on, just like we got our power back on.

PSN may take while to get back on because of what happen last month and they want make sure it is safe. I miss psn, I wanted to download final fantasy iv for psp from psn. That kind sucks, but I can survive it.

God bless y'all.

i don't understand your post? you're grateful that your friends and family are okay but how is this in relation to psn and why is it important that after all of that psn goes back online? sorry it just went completely over my head... im glad you and your loved ones are okay though.

I do find it interesting that everyone seems to be pointing the finger at Anon, when it was really Microsoft that had much more to gain from PSN's collapse.

Also, I see a lot of ppl here saying things like "just watch a BD or play offline" while PSN is down. While I agree that the PS3 is good for a LOT more than just online gaming, watching a movie or playing against computer AI is NOT a substitute for the online multiplayer experience. PvP provides a thrill and rush that is not easily duplicated. It's pretty much a unique experience. So, while there are other options, they don't really compare...and may not fill the void many are currently experiencing. The only real alternatives are XBL or PC...and that's little consolation for those of us that play PS3 exclusives online (Demon's Souls, GT5, etc.)

1 person on the internet equals to 500 actual people in real life and one of those people at some point work for Sony.
